First the stump needs to be smooth IMOP, there is a metal knub/point to lock into a hole on the camera but the R7 doesn't have them and I didn't want to shave the point down leaving some of it for stability as it would scratch up the base of the camera. You could keep memory cards in the base but EP6N and EP6NH won't fit so they are out. Here is the part I chopped off, as I said I only paid $7 including shipping so there wasn't much of a risk. If you push it hard enough you can move it, I will let people know how it works in practice but it makes the ELF camera feel more like my 5DIV size wise!

That is what blew me away.

Also it is a little taller than the newer ones by about 1/4 inch.

no wobble but if you push it hard enough it will rotate, I am thinking of a fix for that that won't mar the R7

I JUST GOT MY BATTERY GRIP FOR THE R7 !!!

I picked up a BG-E2 not sure if it was new but it had the box and AA battery pack. I proceeded to cut off the part that goes into the R7. It is just a tad big on the right side but that is fine.

Got it for $7 with free shipping from MPB in New York

NOW I LOVE MY R7

Cool.
I'd eventually take my multi-tool to it, and cut off everything that isn't a grip extension, but that's just me.

So if you cut half the battery tray off to leave room inside for storage, would an lpe6 fit inside the grip as a backup you can pull out and use when needed?

they have a built in molded battery compartment, I tried to put an LP-E6N into it, and after forcing it about halfway in I am afraid I will never get it back out it was a REAL tight fit. I will just carry them in my pocket but memory cards and money would fit in there.

Ah ok, I don’t remember the old grip designs. Later models had a battery tray mounted to the end cap and everything slid out, at least for some models.

Well it’s good for some emergency cash and other things then. Small fruit snack bags perhaps or chewing gum? :)

A couple more with the EF 70-200 f/4 + 1.4x TC. The first is a heavy crop.

I have a Sigma EF 100-400|C, and I'm thinking of getting their matched 1.4x TC to go with it. That will give me 560 mm f/9 at the long end, equivalent to about 900 mm on FF.

I went ahead and got the Sigma TC-1401 for EF. My local camera store didn't have any new ones in stock, but they had one in the used case that looked pretty new to me. I tried it on my R7 with Sigma 100-400|C and Canon EF-RF adapter and it seemed to work fine right there inside the shop and out through its windows. I'll try to give it a real world test tomorrow or Monday.

Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400
I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.
