Levina de Ruijter wrote in post #19400396 I just received an email from my camera shop. They received R7's and one of them is mine! I transferred the money a moment ago and the camera should be here probably day after tomorrow or the day after. Yay!
That is super news for you Levina. I can't wait to hear your thoughts and tips on the camera.

Thanks very much, Paul! I'm very excited.
As to "thoughts and tips on the camera", I was hoping for you and others to give those to me! I'm sure I will stumble onto things, problems, mysteries. Although the R7 won't be as alien to me as the R6 was in the beginning. At least I hope not...

Looking forward to seeing some of your shots with it and, more importantly, hearing your thoughts about showing with it. Still waiting for my local shop to receive some bodies.

It is not to bad to get used to. I feared the change in how to set the ISO would annoy me loads but there are 2 easy ways to change it - not as simple as just turning a dial though - needs a button press then another action. I do still prefer how things are set up on the R6. Shame it had to change.

Happy for you !

No dealbreakers in there, for me! 15 FPS is all the burst I need if it's a situation where rolling shutter could get ugly. Having to use NR at high ISO, not big deal. I use my right eye. And yes, Spot AF is very spot... use with caution. This is not new.
Would like to see some sports videos, but honestly they would probably look like the R3 videos and there are plenty of those. What I would want to see is someone on a $3000 total budget shooting in some strip-mall gym where you need 6400 to get your shutter speed above 500 no matter the lens. THAT is real life, but it wouldn't be a pretty video.

I just watched Duade Patton's video that gossamer linked to. I first thought I might do as he did: set aperture on the lens's control ring but that won't solve the problem for me because with the R7 I expect to also be using my old EF lenses again. It's just such a strange thing of Canon to do, change the whole button layout. What were they thinking?!

I miss that third wheel too, but I was also getting tired of inadvertently changing my ISO in the heat of the moment sometimes drastically with the R6. The R7 changes it in the same manner as my 7D2, one easy button and turn the little wheel. It's darn near as quick and it stays put.

This video really shows what I was concerned about with the R7.....Its going to be all about ISO and shutter speed. At F/7.1 @ 6400 to get a shutter at 1/200 is a big concern when you are in low light. F/4 glass puts you at 1/400 for the same light at 6400. If you shoot it 1/3 under your in the 1/640 territory.....He said noise clean needed at 3200 when at 6400 ISO and the image he showed in that low light at 6400 were very usable in my view.....But I would not be at F/7.1-8.0......your going to need faster glass when in low light based to his results....in my opinion.....again its all about shutter speed and where you need to push the ISO to get the shot.....1/200 is going to get a lot of Non usable motion blur shots...we all know this
The variable zooms like the 150-600's and Canons 100-500 are going to struggle in these conditions. I think I will probably keep my 500 F4 because I shoot in low light like this...sometimes much lower where I struggle to get to 1/500-640 at 6400 with F/2.8 glass......I really think based on everything I can find.....6400-8000 is going to be the max for lower light conditions.....super low light that I like this or worse means your going to be putting on R6 or a 1Dx2/3 on the lens to get usable shots.....Im actually OK with that because I have the 1Dx2 and 5D4...so I can go to 12800 is low light on these bodies
I need to get the R7 in my hands to be sure but based on what I am seeing posted here....this is a very good video to make some decisions about a purchase.
Capn Jack wrote in post #19400222 It will be a huge difference. I still have a Rebel XSi which gets some use, but it doesn't compare to my 7D2 in most measures.
Was my first dslr. Very capable and have seen amazing photography with it.

So am I missing something? I was expecting I could have the back screen off and shoot like I used to on the XS. But I seem to have to keep screen closed and then view photos taken through the view finder. Is this normal? Is the R7 that much smarter than me? Keep going through menus but not finding an answer.
