How did the images get to the low pixel resolution that you uploaded? That is where the artifacts happened, I think. The more pixels a camera/image has, the more damage you do by downsampling it to 1600 pixels or less wide with something like nearest neighbor. The sharper it is before you downsample, the more crazy-sharp it can be.

Could be. I use the JPEG export tool that's built into ON1. I was never crazy about it in the past, and they just came out with a new version in either version 2022 or 2022.5 but I'm not crazy about that either. But it could also be my settings. Looking at the settings, the only options for resizing method are bicubic (what I used) and resize AI. There's also a sharpening setting in the export dialog that's set to "screen low", presumably low resolution for screen viewing. I'll try screen high in the future. The other settings are high and low resolution for each of mat and glossy photo paper (total four other settings).

I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.

Burst with pre-shot

Spent some time sitting at my desk in my den shooting out an open window at my birdfeeders about 20 feet away. I decided to try my EF 55-250 lens, works pretty good.

There were a bunch of interesting captures, but this is the one I like the best. Not that big a deal to cull the cr3's out of the file.

Canon R7

Nice Jeff !!!

I love my 100-400 on the R6, I see absolutely no reason to go to the 100-500. If you actually look at the difference in 400 vs 500, it isn’t a huge change and you have enough resolution to help a bit to compensate.

I would rather spend money on other RF lenses that have no EF equivalent.

I've been on the fence with this. As well as the EF 16-35/ RF 14-35 upgrade. While I do love the 100-400, the extra bit of range ( I agree it's not as much as you would think) & also not needing the adaptor are both a plus. I do find it hard to justify making the change but we'll see. Right now I use the 100-400 on my 7d2 but I plan to get an R5 this year and I'll probably dump the 7d and my R.

So, a second round of shipments has already made it to retailers here in the States, as i got a call this morning from Hunt's.

Had a nice play with it this afternoon. No time to do anything with images, but here's some teasers. Sorry about blowing the whites, I don;t have anything set up yet, and it was a grey day and suddenly there was sun for a split second.

I LOVE the size and feel of this little camera. It's so much what the EOS R wanted to be, comfort wise, but with far more evolved and EOS feeling controls.

AF is in fact insanely good. I don't know based on this short time with it how it compares to the R5, but I certainly did not feel I was getting any less.

Can't wait to actually set it up (this was pick up camera at shop, attach 100-400mm at the counter with the battery and card I brought, pay, leave, stop at shore on the way home and shoot until sunset. Even started in P mode as I just started shooting, can't recall doing that since my 10D)

Great little camera. I've got more DSLR's to liquidate :)

(Snowy Egret in first image, Great egret in 2nd)

It is not to bad to get used to. I feared the change in how to set the ISO would annoy me loads but there are 2 easy ways to change it - not as simple as just turning a dial though - needs a button press then another action. I do still prefer how things are set up on the R6. Shame it had to change.

You can also set the control ring on the lens to adjust ISO…

Same here. Except the amazing photography wasn't mine

Lol it was in an xsi forum here I belonged to several years ago. We all learn on a camera. For me - I had a p&s sx110 than had Manual and members 'strongly' encouraged learning M. Lots of mistakes on the sx110, sx10, Xsi, and 50D lol

He's one of my favorite YouTubers.

He will probably figure some things out that really help with AF before he does his formal review. Staying tuned for that.

Plus you have 12 more MPs on the sensor...you can crop in a bit and give up that 100MM

Can you set minimum shutter speed in a custom function window ?? If so I would think auto ISO would be the better option

I doubt one would want to keep all the frames, probably just 2 or 3.

Yep. It is just that when I process a burst I normally select ~8 of them and then I process them in LR (actually do it for the first one and then sync the rest) and sometimes batch process in Topaz NR (if they were on the noisier side to begin with) and then I select the 2-3 from those to keep. So in a burst of around 30, I narrow down to around 8-10 without processing and then process all and narrow down to the 2-3. Then, if needed, I do a more careful processing on the 2-3.

The extraction process in DPP isn't too bad. It is just one more step and I'm sure (hope) soon enough the capability to process the compound .CR3 will be incorporated into LRC and other tools.
