Nothing is being written to the card until you hit the shutter button, it's only using the internal buffer memory for the pre-shot info. I was wondering about that myself and was watching the card activity light when I used it a couple times

I assigned the right button on the D-pad to enable the RAW Burst Mode option so I can enable and disable very quickly as when you hit the button to enable it the menu pops up in the EVF, set the options and save. Same to disable. This nice thing is that it remembers all the previous options when being disabled in terms of shutter mode etc. I was worried it would turn it off but leave it in electronic shutter or something.

I tried the option out a couple times this weekend and found it to be very useable in the right circumstances. Unfortunately I didn't get any shots I wanted to keep as the bird I was focusing on kept fling away from me when it was leaving its perch rather than flying towards me, but it was nice to practice with the option and see it work a bit. I didn't think it was something I was actually going to use when I first read about it

I think you are right. I just tested it and indeed the red LED does not come on while half-pressing the shutter button, even though the little RAW Burst Mode indicator is there. I had tested this before and recall seeing the red LED light on when I checked, but I must have pressed the shutter button down all the way by mistake. This is good.

I don't know how I will set it, but however I end up doing it, I will need to develop new muscle memory. I will no doubt want the aperture on the rear dial, like I've had it since well, forever, with the shutter speed on the top dial. ISO may have to be done the default way, with a button and then a dial, the way it was done on my 1D cameras. It was so great to finally have a dedicated ISO button on the R6 and now they've gone backwards with this. I don't think Canon designed this camera for all manual use, that's for sure. :-x

Yep. This was one of my main disappointments, the lack of the ISO dial. One thing I was surprised with was how fast I got used to the position of the Aperture dial. I use the joystick much less than in my 5DIII days, so didn't even have much of an opportunity for one to interfere with the other. I actually like the new aperture dial position better! I also can't imagine changing the aperture setting away from the back dial or the shutter speed away from the top dial.

I have settled on using the control ring for EC. In fact, that was the default setting for the control ring when I started setting up the camera, though it is the one that requires the shutter button to be half-pressed for it to take effect. I changed that to the one where the EC is always active on the control ring. That does create the chance for hitting it inadvertently, but that hasn't been a problem for me.

The only problem is that on occasion, I'll try to use my thumb to quickly adjust the ISO and instead only succeed in either turning off the camera or putting it in video mode :p

I'm mostly over it though but have been using the R7 most of the time. Not sure how it will pan out with the back and forth.

Can you set minimum shutter speed in a custom function window ?? If so I would think auto ISO would be the better option

Yes, you certainly can. I find manual shutter and aperture and let the iso land where it needs to on my R5 is fantastic.
I might be a little more ISO control freak on the R7 though. But in either case, it's great to make all the decisions based on shutter and aperture.

Has anyone been able to figure out how to switch from viewfinder to rear screen manually? I've got that set up on the R5 with the press of a customized button, but can't seem to find it in the R7 menu.

IBIS is on.

Might be worth a try with IBIS off - just a thought...

Are there Hoopoos (SP?) in Poland?

Fantastic images!

Yes, they are our breeding species. Thank you for your positive comment.

You can also set the control ring on the lens to adjust ISO…

Thanks for the tip - I don't have any RF lenses apart from the 50mm 1.8 but I did see someone post recently that there is an adapter with a control ring - that sounds interesting.

The EF (lens) to RF (Body) Adapter comes in 2 models. Plain and one with a control ring.

Been very happy with my Viltrox, works just as well as my Canon branded one. Control ring is worth the extra cost in my opinion

Setup, Page 3, customize buttons, choose which buttons you want to set, all the way to the bottom, next to last option.

I have it set to the DOF button on front of body to toggle between screen and EVF

Actually there are three models: the plain one, one with a control ring and one with a drop-in filter.
