Great Blue Heron taken yesterday. One of the first shots of the day. Normally would not process, but wanted to see what it would do. It was heavy overcast about 45 minutes after sunrise, is a shady area not close to getting any light. RF 100-500, 1/1000 f7.1 ISO 25,600. Topaz DeNoise Severe Noise auto settings.

That's true for any camera, so I'm not understanding what the comment means.

The comment is about how 10 year old software and/or equipment is likely more the cause about bad noise or IQ than the R7.

Again, doesn't that apply to any newer camera such as the R3 or R5?

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just not seeing why the R7 is affected more by older monitors and software as compared to other cameras.

It's not, my comment is directed to those in this thread that aren't extremely happy with what they see from the R7, to make sure not to throw the R7 under the bus, at least not until they upgrade their computer equipment and/or raw processing software.

Were they taken with the Sony A7 or the Canon R7?

Yes, R7. I just decided to call it the Sony until the gear database gets updated so I can add the pics to my gallery. Wish an option was available to let you add to gallery without naming a camera/lens combo since so many are not available.

I am also using EF-M 18-150mm for the RF 18-150mm kit lens, a little more accurate since I believe it is the exact same ,ens except for the mount.

Seems to be lots of talk on R7 and noise on this thread. We were out yesterday morning shooting whatever we came across at a Conservation area about 25 miles from home. My wife and I had 4000 acres to look around and in 3 1/2 hours saw 1 other vehicle! Love living in a rural area. I captured this Indigo Bunting in some shaded dark trees from the seat of my SUV. Used the RF 100-500 at 500mm. 1/1000 sec f7.1 and ISO 6400 -2/3 EC. Cropped shot is 3518X2345 and full frame was 6969X4640. So I threw away 75% of the frame. I opened in Lightroom, did auto tone. Turned LR sharpening down to 0. Opened file in Topaz DeNoise. Did standard DeNoise using auto setting. Looked good, returned to LR. Did my normal tweak of shadows, highlights ect. This is my normal work flow with this and my R5. I was happy with results. Great image. NO. If I did not have a good amount of Bunting shots, I would be happy to have got it. Many times I, as most of us, can not shoot in good light. As Levina stated correctly, this is my opinion right now with limited use of the R7. You may end up with a different one. I was so frustrated with the R5 at first, I thought I had made a mistake. But after a few weeks, and help from Levina and others here, I learned different things and ended up loving the R5. I think I will end up using the R7 most, because it fits my focal length challenged shooting the most. Also, I just checked the noise of the R5 VS: R7 using electronic first curtain. R7 is louder, for sure. But not a lot, to me, or a deal killer for me. I also checked it against a Canon 77D, and they are about them same in loudness. YMMV.

Cropped version first, followed by full frame, no noise reduction.

Looks good. Great to have a properly defined crop as well. "2x'" or "50%" might mean something to those that use those terms, but they dont actually mean anything. Number of pixels is definitive. With 90D I found about 3500 pixels wide was the limit for cropping with acceptable to me quality.

Yes, the R7 has more noise but my so far limited experience is that the R7 files stand up pretty well.

...

I'll put it this way,. I've been shooting the 5D4 as my main camera for 5 years, relatively recently added the R5 which I love and is now my #1. I too am spoiled for great noise control in low light. These two are my indoor event dark theatre cameras.

But,. so was my 1D3 waaaay back when it was king. 10MP into 1.3 APS-H that one was.
And right now the feel I am getting from the R7 as good if not better than that 1D3 was for wildlife. 32mp into 1.6x that's pretty amazing.

Well as it happens my monitor died an hour ago and I have ordered a new, outrageously expensive Eizo monitor. So in a few days I will be able to finally see those R7 files in all their glory. ;-)a

All these nobs talking about BenQ and she goes straight to the Eizo! Well done!

Here are a couple with a "4K" crop. That is, the small edge is set to coincide with the smaller (vertical) 4K UHD dimension, or in other words, 3024 x 2160. This is my sort of "smallest I would like to go" crop as well as my preferred output size these days since I do use a 4K OLED display as my primary "showcase" display at home.
