"ZOOM!", Tiger Canyon, South Africa, May 2022 - As many of you know, this is a "zoom blur". I feel this technique allows one to add energy and the feel of motion to a scene that otherwise would feel rather static.
Like my pan action shots, not everyone will like this technique. Also like the pan, your 'keeper rate' will be fairly low. For those that don't know how to shoot in this style, you need a zoom lens and a slower shutter speed (in this case 1/15 sec). While focusing on a subject, you twist the zoom ring on the lens to create the radial pattern around the center of the focus area. You can zoom in or zoom out. The result is similar, but some find the zoom direction easier zooming in and others find it easier to zoom out. Hey, it's digital so it doesn't cost you anything to give it a try. You might just like it!
Camera Settings: OM System OM-1 Camera, M.Zuiko 40-150mm lens at f/5.6, 1/15 sec, EV 0, Focal length: varied but initially at 80mm
