Hi All,

Very new to photographing birds. Was out on the weekend and got a couple of shots of this bird. I have tried to identify the species but am having no luck.

Hoping someone here may be able to assist.

Taken in Hobart Australia beside a saltwater river.

Thanks Richard. Can’t believe I couldn’t identify this bird.

Good photo and I've seen many other outstanding shots shared on the forum of these birds, taken with the right light and angle they can be a colorful bird. They are however one of the worst pests for me to deal with. They are terrible in my hay barns and near machinery of any kind that you want to keep clean and in good working condition, I don't have any photos of them as I use a 12 gauge instead of my Canon on them.

They steal habitat and food from the native species that belong here. . Worst of all, they steal nest sites from the birds that belong. . I completely condone your use of the shotgun on them.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

They are beautiful in the right light, but pests they are. Sadly, neither the wife nor local law enforcement condone that particular solution in an urban housing development...so, I'm relegated to running out the front door like a burning escapee to scare them off the feeders/yard when we're feeding the other yard birds. The best part is that most of the song birds don't even flush when I do it now....they just sort of glance at me side-eye and go back to eating :-P
