So my oldest camera is the 7D MkII. I have never updated the firmware on it. I have updated the firmware on my R6. Is there a good reason to update the firmware on a older DSLR like the 7DMkII?

nope - if it's not causing you problems, I'd leave it as it is.

Each new release has a list of things "fixed" so you could always have a look at these and see if there's anything that interests you, but if it isn't currently broken I see no need to fix it!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I respectfully disagree with Joseph because they don't always list things they have fixed. I understand why he might suggest leaving things alone, and keeping things working is a strong argument.

I used to consider the GPS in my 7D2 useless unless I was outside but one update seemed to make it usable. I'm not sure which one because I just noticed one day that I still had a GPS lock in a car and it kept lock longer in a jet, where the small windows tend to allow visibility of only a few satellites.

I'm always careful with firmware updates. I have never had an issue but a upgrade failure can be pretty devastating. If things are working well and there is nothing you need from the upgrade, no harm in letting it slide. However, after the firmware has been out there for some time (months, maybe a year) I tend to go ahead and do the upgrade.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Yes, upgrade. As Jack mentions, they won't list all the things they fixed. One can assume that there are numerous little things that they fixed or improved, and they are not going to mention most of those. You won't know which of those might affect you or when.

Some upgrades cause problems (especially Windows upgrades vmad ) but I have never had a problem with a Canon firmware upgrade.

If you want to be real sure, use upgrades that have been out there for a while, They can be assumed to be free of serious new bugs.

How old is the last firmware release on this camera? I gotta think it's probably been a couple of years. If that release had bricked features, we probably would have heard about it and probably wouldn't have been the last release.
