Fantastic article that actually kept my attention to the end.

I once experienced a lightning strike which I assumed was extremely close based on the sound and blinding flash, ringing in my ears from the boom, and the metallic taste in my mouth as if I had my tongue on a 9volt battery. I've always wondered if I dodged that bolt by yards or inches lol

Love the article, makes me miss living in DC though :( Had a lot of good times over the years shooting in the locations he mentions.

Experienced the derecho in 2012, was out in Arlington at the time it hit, and it was apocalyptic. Trees down and blocking major roads/highways, power out for days, no AC. Haven't experienced anything like it, before or after.

I like the article. Was very cool and inspiring. But I don't agree that it's safe to be under a roof of rock with no walls. You can still get hit.

A while back there was an article here in Canada about a man who was hit by lightening multiple times. Once while he was driving his car. Another time he left his window open in his house and the lightening went through the window horizontally and blasted him. Another time he was hit by lightening while recovering in hospital. Another window was open and the lightening found it's way in.

I've never been hit by lightening. There are many T.V and Radio tower's near Prince Albert Saskatchewan. And I bicycled on the highway by them as they were hit by lightening. Something that's hard to forgot. Literally 25 m away from a tower and it gets hit by lightening.
