My daughter needed a head shot for a student ID when she starts college in a few weeks. I took one quickly in the backyard but realized that the background was bad - rookie mistake.

Since it is going on an ID badge, can the background be replaced with a neutral background? What PP program is best for that sort of thing?

Photoshop makes it very easy.

1) Use the "Select subject" menu option and then make the selection a mask.

2) Add a layer with a colored background, color of your choice. First example is a solid, second is a gradient.

3) Crop to fit specs.

4) Export as a jpeg in the size you need.

Will take about 2 minutes total. I hope you don't mind I did this process from a screen shot of your photo. I will take it down if you object.

Bob that's very neat and well done
Not wanting to take over, but is the selection something you have to tediously trace around?
The strands of hair, ear rings. I can't see any non new background bits there.

No, the AI selections in Photoshop can be amazing these days. Al I did was select the "Select Subject" command and Photoshop did the rest.

If you don' have PS AI tools try one of many online tools. I used remove.bg (external link) and got this result.

These would be much better when using the RAW file.
