Big Ben has struck midnight in London and its time to do the judging.

Thanks to all for the excellent responses this week.

Eidelweiss and Torchrider- a well captured steam locomotives in the snow. There's certainly nothing like a steam engine for lots of smoke.

Unless you're in LtDave's business of burning buildings...then there's even more smoke!

OldCrow - excellent example of photographers in the fog. At first glance I completely missed them.

RDMP - Love the way the fog swirls around the building on the hilltop.

TerryPink - I like the contrast with the wet cold Karl the Fog and the dry grass on the hills and in the foreground. With the coming predicted heat wave, I suspect we'll both be wanting Karl to return soon.

dilorenzo1954 - Your composition with the sailboat close by and the lighthouse and shore partially obscured in the foggy background is my choice for 1st place. I keep wondering if there is a little sunlight coming through the thinning fog. Full disclosure - I've spent a fair amount of time sailing in and out of the fog on San Francisco Bay and that may have biased my choice just a little. This image speaks to my personal experiences. So congratulations Ed!

OldCrow wins second place and third place goes to Eidelweiss.

burning buildings aint MY business!!! i just happened upon it, driving home from an old building tour a few years back. being 'right there' and having a class-II safety vest in the car sure went a long way to the chief letting me stand pretty much where ever i wanted to shoot.

the building WAS burned 'for business'. INSURANCE business. they found a big old snake of hemp rope going all through the basement that had an accelerant (gasoline?) poured on it. i had more photos with more and more ominous smoke but wanted to include the human element in the shot...

Oops! For some reason I thought you were a firefighter.

It's amazing how a good arson investigator can determine the source of a fire.

the firemen saw the rope burning when they arrived on scene...

but yes. good investigators can find evidence that you would think, would be consumed by the fire
