Is there a way to receive a notification when another person quotes one of your posts? I have had several instances where I miss one of my posts being quoted and merely stumble on it later. Kind of like the heads up feature but to let you know your post was quoted instead of liked. I have looked through the user options and can't seem to find a setting to turn this on/off.

Any help would be appreciated.

"Latest replies" in FYEO is approximately what you're asking for.

You are absolutely right and I found that when looking for notification settings. I was just hoping that I missed a setting where it would pop up automatically similar to when someone "likes" your post. Thank you for taking the time to answer though!

Thanks so much for that!

I hadn't realized that such a page existed. . Guess that's one of only a few things with the AMASS software that isn't super obvious and intuitive.

It'd be great to get a notification on my phone or computer every time someone replies to my posts, or quotes my posts. . Many other websites do that by default, so it can't be that difficult to write code for. . But at least now I know how to access this information, even if it isn't right there in my face.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I could write a feature which stores who is/are quoted when post is submitted. I don't know how genuinely useful that would be apart from curiosity factor.

In 99% of cases when you are quoted, it is a reply to your post.

I agree that it would be good to have a more prominent way to notify when you have been replied to.

I think a good way is to have a separate notification box ("counter") for replies to your posts. You click it can get a popup list of those posts. There would be FYEO settings to make that system catch replies to your threads (POST TO THREAD) or replies to individual posts by you (REPLY/QUOTE), or both. Maybe also a choice to get Heads Ups for those.

Of course normal notifications would have those posts, too, if set up so. And when you read the posts, normal notifications for those posts get removed, too.

I'll work on this.

That would be very helpful, Pekka.

I follow so many threads here, that the "normal" notifications that show there are new posts in threads that I follow do not work when it comes to letting me know that someone has replied specifically to me.

I mean, if I see there are 1,300 new posts in a thread that I follow, I am not going to be able to read all of those posts ... and yet one or two of them could be someone replying to me and asking me a question about one of my posts in that thread.

I feel horrible knowing that people have probably written me questions, and I have not answered them or responded to them at all. But to go read tens of thousands of posts, just to see if any were meant specifically to me, would be impossible.

What you are talking about would solve this problem entirely, and I very much look forward to it being implemented.

Just the Bird Portrait thread alone will do that to you in a short time.

That thread is a perfect example of why it would help so much to get notifications when someone quotes or replies to your post. . Because it would be so easy to post something there in that thread, have someone come along a week later, and ask you a question about what you posted, and you would never see it because there would be 100 - 300 new posts in just that one week's time.

The way Facebook, Instagram, Fstoppers, and every other similar site does it is perfect. . They send you a notification (or list a notification) every time someone replies to any comment or post you have made. . It makes perfect sense to do it that way. . And you get to choose whether you want that notification sent to you via browser pop-up, or cell phone notification, or email notification, or whether you want it to just be listed on your home page on that site.

If every other site can do it that way, then it can't be too difficult to program it to work that way here. . Heck, even Fstoppers does that, and their software is quite inferior to POTN's AMASS software in every way.

Dear Tom,

If you have that many unread posts, no amount of features can help you avoid reading them. :)
I would suggest that you clear those notifications if you have not been able to read them in, let's say, 3 months time.

This is still work in progress, but these things a mostly coded:

There will be a notification when you are quoted. They won't happen on pre-AMASS 2.5 posts, only for new posts after the update. I could parse all quotes in all 19 million posts and do notifications, but logically there is no point to do that.

Note that getting a quoted user to be found from post, quote tag needs to be there in full and correctly closed.

There will be a "Heads up" for

- post replies
- thread replies
- quotes in replies

Of course, often replies are quoted, so you'll get a double notification. That could be messy. I suppose there should be a user setting to stop quote notification when the reply is to you. In that case quote notifications happen only when you are not replied to, but quoted. We'll get "like replies", too, which are always made with automatic quotes.

In https://photography-on-the.net/forum/fyeo.php?show=replies you'll get all those categorized.

Replies to your posts (100 latest)
Replies to your threads (100 latest)
You were quoted in (100 latest)

That list is important as it shows all post hits, not just those in followed ones. As it is now, it shows last replies and thread replies (100 last combined).

When you go to read any of the listed post (via FYEO or other means), notification (if any) is cleared as usual.
FYEO list will not be cleared, there will be a command to do that if you need it.

I'm working on all other features in this area. Quick access to that FYEO page is needed, and will be there. If there are emails to be sent is to be determined. In notifications, I plan to add visual cues where new posts contain posts with quotes from you, replies to your post. Those are easier to see in notification emails, too.

We can do email, notifications like https://photography-on-the.net/forum/notifications.php (that page is designed for small screens), heads up, FYEO. What we can not have is a cell phone (SMS) notification. Maybe some day if we get an app, but with these resources I can not promise anythings. POTN is coded and designed by one person. Meta has thousands of programmers, billions to put into all projects. I earn nothing of this. If you consider that, I feel that we are doing quite well :)

PS. Even if it would be simple to make, I do not want to use emails for single notifications as they can get quite annoying. There is also a possiblity of getting POTN mail blacklisted as spam.
