This challenge begins when posted and ends on Monday, October 3rd, 2022, at midnight GMT. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Apropos of hurricanes Ian and other tropical storms in play right now, I’m looking for stormy images or the aftermath of the storms…PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BE A STORMCHASER!!!:-D

The Challenge Rules:

1. Camera: Any DIGITAL CAMERA is allowed, not just DSLR.
2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size: Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post Processing: Do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting: ONE PHOTO per photographer per challenge. List camera model & lens used. Post brief EXIF data: ISO, shutter speed and aperture.
6. Commenting: No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have lots of FUN!

>> THE WINNER ALWAYS SETS THE THEME FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE, POSTS IT AND JUDGES IT - BE PREPARED

Ian passed to our east and only gave us some moderate rain for most of yesterday. It did beat down the flowers that were left on the deck though. Overall, we dodged a bullet.

California rarely gets "storms" this time of year. So I pulled one from the past. Aftermath, fires do make the pinecones act alive and pop their seeds. An amazing rebirth and to regenerate the land. This was 2 weeks after the CZU fire which ravaged thru 85,000 acres in 2 counties of coastal parks and farmlands in Aug of 2020. These multi-fires were all started by a severe lightening storm, another rarity in CA.

* this is just for show, as I will be AFK till Wed or Thurs and not able to post the next challenge- I am NOT savvy enuff to use cell ph to post. TerryPink.
** I am off to Mnt Lassen National Park and collecting many more images. still, TerryPink

Thank you all for your entries; I enjoyed then and I'm glad that you all are out of harm's way.

OldCrow You did dodge a bullet... your plants look like they are huddled together for safety. I'm sure they'll bounce back Don;-)a

TerryPink Nice image...it almost looks like selective color, but I know that the grayscale is just soot and ashes. It's comforting to see a bit of hope in the aftermath of such devastating destruction.

RDWP Sorry Rob...I think I'll walk:eek: God bless those pilots that fly in these weather conditions!

Ltdave I like the isolation on the trombone player and your use of shallow DoF.

sierracharlie338 Striking image! Is that the moon behind the storm cloud or lightning flash?

Cuypers1807 Nice image Joby! It looks like they dodged a bullet with the water being a bit choppy but the sun peeking through the clouds. Hopefully the storm was behind them;-)a

This was a tough decision...

I'm going with:

RDWP and his February blizzard defying plane ride.

sierracharlie338 a very close second

Cuypers1807 with the HM

Congratulations to the winners! What do you have for us next, Rob?

Last note
TerryPink I really liked your image but didn't consider it since you are not available for judging...sorry Terry.

Thanks Ed. Really good images this week - congrats all. Good topic!

New challenge is posted: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1527352

(PS - we finally got out of Nuuk, Greenland between snow squalls. Bumpy first few hundred feet though, out of the mountains.)

That was lightening behind the bank of clouds. It was still dry at that moment luckily haha. Thank you for the kind words!
