I'd give motion blur a shot. Even if it isn't it does help. Try lens too but I found motion more effective.

I just installed 1.0.9. Jeez these things come fast and furious. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago when they launched 1.0.0? And the installs are big. They aren't just little patch files. I think they start over every time and reinstall the whole app. Installation process takes 10 to 20 minutes.

And they leave a lot of trash files. My appdata/local/temp directory had some 6 or 8 files and folders with the Topaz name. MSI files, EXE files, and hundreds of cryptically named files. I noticed that my C: drive usage would go up by a couple of percent with every update.

I didn't think about this before I did the last update, so I didn't take any measurements before the install. I'm going to check that with the next update. I'm thinking maybe next Tuesday?

LOL. I'm on a Mac so I would not know where to look for that. At least they are doing something. They want to Photo AI to phase out the 3 individual apps some day. On other sites some say the IQ improves with every update.

The 1.08 update caused it to crash on my PC, luckily the 1.09 brought it back. I think topaz will eventually try to phase out the individual apps. It might be the best way to go as they have made sharpen worse with each successive upgrade for the last few.

Topaz says on their site and in a support email where I asked that specific question? They made sharpen worse? Do you mean Sharpen AI or the sharpening function in Photo AI?

Sharpen ai. I used to get nice sharpening without artifacts and the noise reduction was subtle. Now the sharpening is more likely to leave artifacts and sharpen noise even with the noise reduction set to a reasonably strong setting. It went from being useful to a finicky mess

Went back to and older file. Canon R with 400 DO II and EF 2X III. I also had the camera in 1.6 crop mode.

I've been browsing through a bunch of before/after files and I'm really impressed with both the noise and sharpening results.

I'm on a 9yr old i7-3610Qm, GTX680, and 16gb RAM which has remained surprisingly capable for all my photo editing needs, although the Mavic 3 video files are a whole other story, even when using proxy files. I've been waiting for some major mechanical failure but it just keeps ticking, even with the 45mp files from the R5. However, Topaz trial software errors out on this setup so it may finally push me into getting a new laptop.

These AI programs also use a lot of VRAM. Something else to consider.

I was reading up on Topaz and did see that often mentioned. My card is only 4GB and not listed in the compatibility chart.

Bottom line is I need to bite the bullet and upgrade. It's been so long since I've last been shopping for a laptop that I'm largely out of the loop on the latest hardware. I need to find a build that will allow me to do all of our typical photo related tasks, but the catch is I'd like to be able to edit short 2k-4k clips (less than 5mins lengths) coming from my Mavic 3 drone.

Just ordered a new laptop this afternoon, so hopefully I'll be smooth sailing for maybe 6-7yrs.

I've also taken note of that as I was researching and ended up going with a 3080ti 16GB card. Is that overkill for my current needs? Yes, ABSOLUTELY lol...but I can see AI editing becoming mainstream and quickly advancing in the near future.

An i9-12900HX, 32GB DDR5, and 16GB VRAM is not what I was expecting to check-out with, but then again, 10yrs ago I made a similar splurge and it turned out not to be a mistake.
