Bird in sky help Critique.

Could i have done better at the taking stage here, first shot is a jpeg just cropped, seconed shot is from raw, it was very overcast no sun just cloud.
i thought i was exsposing for the bird but exspected some cloud detail yet its washed out should i have not bothered ?

Rob, I think that would be a perfect picture to change the background on. Since the bird is basically on a white background already it should be pretty easy (This is a thought and I may totally off base here). I think exposing for the bird is what you wanted in this case.

Yup, kinda what I had in mind. You could even put some grass at the bottom and a tree in the background to get really creative, like it was landing.

I really like the way the second photo turned out! I saw the first one and it seemed so white, but when you added the colors of the sky it totally brought out the uniqness of the captured moment.
