Graphics Card Issue in Lightroom

My GPU is an NVIDIA GT 710 with 2 GB of memory. Per Lightroom's page here:

https://helpx.adobe.com …#gpu-for-image-processing (external link)

2 GB should be enough for Lightroom to use the GPU for display and processing. It uses the card for display but the choice for image processing is greyed out. The driver is up to date. I have had this card going back a few LR updates and have never been able to select image processing. It seems to meet the min requirements - any ideas?

Thanks.

A 2gb graphics card is the bare minimum required to run LRC functions and certain requirements are needed to run aspects of LRC. They're pretty picky about which cards can run which features. You might check your card against Adobe's specs.

Thanks both - did basic trouble-shooting and updated the driver - same result. I'm thinking LR is just not going to work with this card?

Got a new card - this one:

https://www.amazon.com …o2ov_dt_b_product_details (external link)

4 GB of memory and supports DirectX 12. Still get the same result. Maybe Lightroom just doesn't like NVidia. Can anyone recommend a card that they know from experience works?

Thanks.

Sorry, can't help you with Lightroom. I use Phase I Pro and Photoshop CS5. My rig has a 16GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Titanium. I admit it's overkill for photo processing. Although I wonder, given the 32 megapixel R7 that I just picked up. The 3060 represents the current generation of GPUs. At a guess, it's four or five generations beyond the GT 470 that you just bought. I didn't know you could still get them. I recently threw a GTX 980 into the recycle bin, figuring that it was so outdated that there would be no one interested in buying it.

I have an RTX2060 that works with LR on my i9 PC, however even that card was flakey for earlier versions of LR. I had to turn “Use GPU for Processing” off because with it checked I was getting some weird results (image LOOKED corrupt …but it wasn’t).

I used AMD for my previous build and also had to uncheck the box to make things run better (can’t remember the exact issue).

So… even if the box can be checked it doesn’t guarantee things will work nicely.

I prefer Nvidia because all of their RTX cards now support 10 bit monitors. For PS and LR I’d stick to the 20 or 30 series RTX cards.

Does your CPU have onboard graphics? If so, maybe see if that works.

To be fair, the 740 is build on a 10 year old architecture (Kepler). Yes it has CUDA cores however this is on version 3 of CUDA where the most modern version (4000 series) is on version 8.9. The instruction set is probably also deprecated. You can try to install the latest drivers (which are 3 months old now) https://www.nvidia.com …esults.aspx/191970/en-us/ (external link)

For recommendation for a new card:
You can look for an Nvidia GTX1630 or GTX1650. These are based on the Turing architecture which supports CUDA version 7.5. These also don't need an extra power supply cable (just like your 740). If you go newer (1660, 2060, 3050, 3060) then you need an 8 pin power connector.

I am using an older Nvidia GTX745 with no problems. It has 4gb of ram.

I'm pretty certain that all graphics cards work fine with LR, just some do not allow full acceleration (I'm sure the GTX1650 does). To help the OP it might be informative to also provide a screenshot showing what is checked, such as:

Thanks all - appreciate. Bob_A - that screenshot is in my first post. I can use the card for display but not processing or exporting (where it is really needed). Thanks.

I'm using Radeon Pro 580X 8GB. I got 8GB mostly for the AI apps like Topaz.
