Great Blue Heron

What I noticed about this set of photos is that the AF hit rate (the number of images in focus ) is really high. The AF really is working well. I have to do more to test it on smaller subjects to be sure though.

When you select a subject to detect (animals, people, vehicles etc.) or set it to AUTO, the AF will look for those subjects to track, regardless. If you want to limit the AF to your specified AF area you need to set Subjects to Detect to NONE. And also have the Whole Area Tracking Servo AF turned off.

Here’s a video that explains it in more detail and shows it in action.

FANTASTIC! Thank you very much!
This helped verify what I thought was going on.

Even though this is a heavy crop, the detail looks very good. Sensor looks like a winner from what I am seeing posted

So far the files look pretty good to me!! I am going to try to make some prints this weekend. I am liking it so far both the camera itself and the files!!!
I have had an R5 since they were released and love it and so far this R6II is looking good too.

From a chilly morning this morning (42 degrees F which is chilly for South Florida- I thought it was wonderful to be out in)

A female anhinga with a pleco catch. Took her a while to soften it up enough to swallow...spiny little buggers. Same type of fish as the GBH pic I put in this thread a few days ago. Different location different bird species!! Same problem with spines!!! I don't know how they eat these things. The camera did well with these tough focusing challenges.

Another one from this morning. The camera's colors are really nice right out of the camera-I photographed this particular species (grey headed swamphen-has a crazy color scheme) to see what the colors were like SOOC. No adjustments needed. This is only slightly cropped with minor LR adjustments. The colors are dead on compared to what the scene looked like.

How far were you and how much did you crop? I got pretty close to an Anhinga in Florida many years ago.

AT this place they are so used to people and the distances can be short anyway that they go about their business unconcerned for the most part with people. The large wood storks and others nest in mangroves literally next to the boardwalk where the staff has to put up ropes as some of the nests are literally touching distance. Lots of guano, though!!! And during full baby season the noise is deafening!!! Of course many of the nests are far away and/or out of sight, too.

The ones that are born and raised there are REALLY used to people and hang around on the boardwalk railings as people walk by, seemingly posing for pictures.
Like this silly young cormorant also from this morning......

Here is the original SOOC converted to jpeg. You can see how nice these direct from camera images are, colors, etc.
Not too far @500mm

They are pretty common here, usually one of two species but the DC is most common by far
