On the Small Rig L-bracket you can take off the L piece if you want to so you have just a base plate on the camera.

For the price it seems worth the try.

ISO 12800 F1.4 Straight out of Adobe Camara Raw, default settings. There is no noise visible except in the shadows near the top and it's very minimal.

I don’t know if this has been asked, did a search to no avail. As I currently have an R5 and am not entirely on board with its wildlife/bird photography capabilities, can anyone share opinions on whether the R6 II is better than the R5 for above mentioned photography? Thanks

The R3, R6II, and R7 have the latest version of the Canon autofocus. It can be customized more flexibly and IMO locks on to animals (esp birds with complicated backgrounds) more effectively.

OTOH the R5 system is damn good compared to anything that preceeded it. What is the problem you're having? Maybe some of us can help with suggestions that will allow you to enjoy the camera more...

Agreed. The R5’s AF system is excellent. Must be the settings.

I come onboard to Canon mirrorless from a 7D2, 1DX3. Never had the difficulties with soft images, noise, as I am with the R5. BIF? Rarely get any usable results. I have tried many different setting suggestions, yet still remain frustrated. I have used other lenses with this R5, including a couple EF adapted lenses, with mostly the same results. Used mechanical, electronic shutters. Case 1,2 and 3. ISO from my usual 1000 up to over 4000. I typically shoot in AV. just can’t seem to crack the code! I never have had to work so hard to get images out of a camera body before. I had a Fuji XH1, so not my first foray into mirrorless. That Fuji took stunning images…I’m accustomed to the low light capabilities of the 1DX…perhaps my expectations are higher than my wallet will allow. I mostly shoot wildlife, birding and macro. Lots of sunrise and sunset work…thank you

One more thought…does fine with static subjects in good lighting. In lesser light, overcast conditions, or, as mentioned, moving, feeding birds with busy backgrounds, looses focus and images are soft

It's interesting, my friend has been shooting with Canon for 13 years and his last camera was the 6D II. He loved it!
Recently he's got to shoot with the R3 and he's had nothing but issues doing portraits using eye AF. He said the focus is super unreliable for most things. Even when the camera says the focus is achieved, he later finds out the af missed completely (cost him some shots in a paid gig). He bought another one with the same constant issues (using various RF lenses). He said it's the least reliable AF system he's ever used which boggles my mind. Even if he was a complete noob (which he obviously isn't) the camera should be able to nail focus most of the time regardless of settings (especially if it says it achieved focus).
The R3 is supposed to have the best AF of any camera ever created, but he finds his old 6D and other DSLRs to be far more reliable.
