Thanks for the feedback.

I've rented the RF 70-200 f/4L IS, but I also own the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS MkI (old school)

I know Monkeypixels on Youtube are pro photogs that do video and also photos including a lot of figure skating. They compared the RF 70-200 2.8 and the EF 70-200 2.8 III and they preferred the EF version because it was just as insanely fast and accurate when adapted, and the focus ring/throw was much more to their liking than the RF version... plus it's way cheaper.

So here's an interesting issue.. I received my rental. I realized too late that I don't have a UHS-II card to use, but didn't expect it to be a huge issue, just slower file transfer rate.

I put in my normal San disk extreme card that I've used in my 5D3 for years and the R6ii won't detect it. At all. For sh*ts and grins I had a micro SD card in an SD adapter on my desk. Put it in and it worked fine.

In some places it helps, in most it is not necessary in my experience. But when you need it it works great.

I tried my other 64GB San Disk extreme card & it worked fine.

I tried formatting the first in my 5D3 before putting it in the R6ii and it still wouldn't work.

That camera certainly takes nice pictures;-)a.

What do you think of the handling/controls compared to the R5? I’d like to replace my RP as a second body for travel. No complaints about IQ, but ergonomics and battery life are annoying.

No I didn't but I shot default elec/mechanical shutter. Maybe if you shot electronic shutter you might?

For anybody interested in video, I shot this test in 4K 60 Clog3 ISO 25,600 handheld with the 70-200 IS. I was shocked at how little noise ISO 25,600 had especially when I see what youtubers are posting. I also used an old UHS-I SD card and it worked great for 4K 60.

I just manually graded this (LUTs are for chumps and cause noise to increase and dynamic range to decrease).

Minor differences compared to the R5 (on off switch for example) but otherwise mostly the same. My initial impression is that the R6II battery life is better than the R5 ( which is NOT good) but it's really too soon to tell definitively.

That was one of many reasons I got the R6 II over the R5. The battery life is rated much higher. I think it's rated around 75% improved over the R5.

Thanks Ed. R5 battery life is certainly not good compared to a DSLR, but it’s rarely a problem. The viewfinder is a big drain on mirrorless, so I would expect the R6/R6II to be a little better.

I got used to using the M-Fn button to switch C modes on the R5 and missed it more than I expected with the R7. But when I want a second body it’s more for static subjects so making quick changes isn’t critical.

The only thing I really miss on both my R7 and R6II is the M-Fn is to switch C modes. I never had any issues with the R5 battery life but I never shot professionally with that body.

When I first got the R5 I missed a mode dial. The default setup was a nuisance. Took me a while to learn about the button. New stuff is hard:lol:.
