Happy you mentioned this because I was considering the r5 over the r6 as my first mirrorless.

There are many people who prefer the R5. It's nice to have a forum like this where it's easy to get both opinions. I will say this -- you can't go wrong with either choice. Both are excellent cameras!

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I have been watching pre production videos last couple days. Not a lot of stills shooting information and it looks like it has a lot of video improvements over R61.One guy was shooting portraits with the new 135 and images looked great to me..... One thing I am super happy about was battery life was greatly improved. Some people are saying 12-13-1500 shots and they still have 1 bar left....thats great. Going to a camera store as soon as they hit and get my hands on one.

It seems that many on this forum are about to upgrade to mrk2 and yet the majority also mainly shoot still (so it seems )
My take on the mrk2 is that the main improvements are video related (except the af and a bit more mpixles)

I beg you reconsider
I do not want to be left alone on this nice forum :-)
Or at least explain your move

Omer, I want the Mk.2 for the improved AF and yes, the 4mpx more. There are more reasons (some video related) but these are the main reasons.

However, I have to rethink my decision to upgrade. I just received a quote from the shop for my R6: 1300 euro. That’s 1400 (!) euro less than what I paid for it new 2 years ago! I’m in shock about how the R6’s value has plummeted, apparently.

R6 in 2020: 2739 euro
R6 now: 1300 euro
R6II: 2929 euro
Cash required to get the R6II: 1629 euro!

I’m not going to do this. I could get the R7 for 1519 euro and have 2 cameras for crying out loud!

I received word from shop #2 where I preordered also and I will try them, but I don’t expect their offer to be any better.

1300 euro! Wow…

What you just said is whats upsetting to me with the direction canon has been going. Really its Horseshiat that they are marketing like this...the current R6 owners should really be pi$$ed.....Nikon did the same thing with the D3 and D3s back in the day and people were furious....Canon is following the apple marketing plan with the I phones.....I have not jumped in a mirrorless yet, but this R62 looks right up my alley....going to get me hands on one....once again I have great cameras and Im a little conflicted about which way to go...as fast as canon is changing cameras it might be better for me to just get the R7....less $$$$ and I really only want a mirrorless for wildlife needs....My guess is canon will introduce an R body to compete with the 30mp sensor of the 5D4.....its really stupid what they are doing and many invested owners that I know are not very happy with them tight now....I feel your pain

Thanks, Mike.

If I were buying my first mirrorless I wouldn’t hesitate and buy the R6II. But the upgrade from the mark 1 is way too costly.

Canon lowered the price of the R6 from 2749 to 2299 and then added a Black Friday 300 euro cashback, so you can buy the damn thing new for 1999 now. Then 1300 looks reasonable. Except it isn’t. And what really annoys me is that the shop itself has R6 occasions listed for 2200 euro and thereabouts! vmad

I have been very happy with my R6 and that won’t change.

I'm waiting for the second shoe to drop (R5 version II) but I've already decided I won't upgrade if it happens. New body every two years? No, that is nonsense.

There wasn't much time between the 1D MIII and the 1D MIV (likely due to all the issues on the 1D3 and the recall/warranty work). But yes, there has usually been about a 4 year average wait from one version to the next.

Lord it seemed like an eternity!

the 1D4 had a stop on the 1D3 for sensor performance. 6400 was very usable on that 1D4. I loved that camera

My R6II is scheduled to be delivered on 11/20 according to FedX. I can't wait. Apparently it hasn't sold as well as the original version. I was not expecting to get it until into 2023. I just pre-ordered about two weeks ago from B&H.

My new, favorite camera of all time will soon to be delivered.

To explain a little, I do some paid photography. Not enough to live off of but quite a bit. I currently have a R6, a 5DIV and a Fuji X-E2. My least used camera of the three is the 5DIV. It is just no match for either mirrorless cameras I own.

I feel that I need two cameras that use my Canon lenses so that I don't disappoint my customers. 20+ mega pixels are enough for my customers. The R6II came at just the right time for me.

I too loved the 1DIV. It was a great camera and it fit my hands perfectly. It was a bit smaller than a 1DX and a great sports shooting machine.

I got this all wrong. Preview AF is what I'm interested. I think this is similar to I think Initial AF Servo AF on page 5 of the R5 and possibly the R6 manuals. It's the white pre-focus square I think.
