We should all start a club!! I'll be 70 in September. There are a lot of us on this thread. I still handhold my EF 300 2.8II with TC's but not as often!! I handhold the 100-500 all the time but it does get heavy after a while, especially since I now have a torn rotator cuff AGAIN (12 years post surgery). Ugh.

I had the 24-240 and sold it. I am now not sure that was a a great idea. It is a good compromise. I have the 24-105L but just bought the 24-105 STM to take on a big trip.

BTW LJ3Jim those are great photos!!!

Thank you for the kind words. I'll be honest -- I had the 24-240 last fall and sold it. The 24-105 STM and 100-400 STM were so light that I thought I could carry both and switch them. That worked fine for a while until I went to Legoland. I just took one body and was constantly switching the lenses. The next day I found a dealer in the LA area that had the 24-240 in stock. I bought it and used it quite a bit for the rest of our road trip up the California and Oregon coasts going back to Seattle. I do love the lens, and I'm glad it's back in my kit.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I went through an R5 and an R6, but the IQ just wasn't quite there compared to my 1DX2 shots. The R6II is there in IQ for me!

I upgraded to the R6mII from an R6 and I agree, the R6II has better IQ. I loved my R6 but I'm glad I decided to sell it and get the R6II.

And by the way, I'll be 70 in July.

I will sign up for the club - 70 in November! I have the RF 24-105 F4 L, but since I bought the RF 100-500 I have been carrying that around. I love the lens, and it doesn't seem all that heavy, especially without the lens foot attached. Never thought I could get sharp pictures at 500 mm handheld!

How did you get the lens foot off?

Τhese were shot with the EFS 18-200 and the R6II with a crop format of 9.3MP. I think the quality is passable for internet viewing :-D but not that great for blow ups...

I love my R6 mk II but still mostly shoot birds with my R7 for the bit of extra reach at the ponds I have to go to. But for everything else I like the R6ii.

My wife asked what I want for my 70th birthday and was thinking of the 24-240 (no way she would go for the 100-500 and my 100-400ii still is pretty good). I have the RF 24-105 the "kit" lens and I like it and have the 100-400 but for a single walkabout lens the 24-240 sounds pretty good. Also not having to change lenses.

What would you do? By you I mean any of you with the R6ii

Another way to go, if you are looking for a light weight single lens solution, would be to pick up a RF-S 18-150mm for your R7. I recently sold my entire M50 kit, which was my light weight travel solution, and bought a R10 + RF-S 18-150mm.

I have the 18-150 for the R7 as the R7's were only available with that lens. i am thinking of dark indoor situations, museums and such with my R6ii, the R7 isn't the best in very low light.
the 18-150 is a good lens. but don't want to use it on the R6

I have the EF 70-200iii f/2.8

with my bad knees weight is an issue, If I go to a museum I take my walker and it has a little pouch under the seat where I can stash an extra lens so maybe sticking with the RF24-105 f/ 4-7.1 and the RF100-400 which is light in the pouch...

How did you get the lens foot off?

Loosen the knob that lets you rotate the lens, and then pull the knob straight out. The whole assembly will pop off.

Well, the R6 Mark II does Swallows in flight quite well...

Two shots, same day, same location, just different angles to the sun.
These are jpegs, almost SOOC so I don't dare crop much. Still can't access the raw files. I'm working on it!
