Had the EF version, seeing them for about $700 in excellent condition in the used market. Would love to have the RF version, it's a lot less $$$ than I initially thought it would be.

$700.00 is what i paid new in 2005 (give or take $29.95) and i belive it's new price has been more in that range than anywhere near US $1k for most of it's lifespan.
It was always the most affordable, best bang for your buck L prime. Priced similar to f/4L zooms, but with IQ close to lenses costing 5x.

This old L performs so well I don't see any reason to look at a newer version personally, but I can certainly imagine some will be swayed by IS, and the RF mount for those that don't have the EF. Not to mention the overall better specs.

But this old lens and I have been through a lot together, and until it dies, or won't mount, I'll just keep using it.

IS on the new 135 is going to be great especially in poor light. But its not going to be $2100.00 great . I think sensors are so good that it really doesnt matter where is lands with a 1/400 shutter on the old 135L

True, but on my R5 or 7, I get IS with the old EF anyway :)

I finally received this lens. Ordered Nov 3rd. I really wanted to try this focal length for Kenzie (dog) pictures. So far have have been very please with the look and the AF speed. I am using it on the R3.

A couple samples

Very cool! I can't wait to get mine. I pre-ordered as well, hoped to see it at the end of January, still waiting

I‘m pretty happy with the 135 so far. Compared
to the old one it is quite big. But the image quality is amazing!

I shake my head every time I see an announcement, is Canon trying to recoup their R&D investment in record time? It may be cutting edge technology but the prices are out of control even for a working pro.

Looking beautiful, so far!

For reference, $1000 in 1995 is equal to $1974 today, so not as big of a jump as the sticker shock may seem. (Not that I really want to defend Canon's pricing.)

I'd love to leave the adapter behind, but I think I'm going to trade the 'ol 85 1.8 towards a second-hand EF 135L instead of this monster RF. Hopefully that will last me until prices go down or my budget comes up, haha

Not shot with the new RF 135mm, though.
