Posting here since I can’t find a specific forum for it. I have the Tamron 150-600 G2 for the EF mount, an use it on an EOS RP with a mount adapter. Is there an extender that will work with this combo?

Any EF-mount extender between lens and RF-adapter will work with it.

Personally, I use the EF-extenders with all of my EF-mount lenses between extender and adapter this way, on my EOS R. Works just fine.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

Would an RF extender between the adapter and the body work just as well? If the OP needs to buy something new, might as well go more future-proof.

Yes, it should, and will.

The only thing I am not sure of, is whether it has any electronics preventing it from working with any lenses other than the official list, although I suspect that the adapter makes it possible for it to work with any EF-mount lens that way.

Possibly someone else has the definitive answer to this?

Kind regards, WIm

I have seen a discussion that talked about the Canon RF extender having a front tube that was too large to fit a RF-EF adapter, needing a bit of "modification" of the adapter to get it to fit. Will post a link when I find it again...

In a recent article, I answered the question, "Can Canon RF Extenders be used with the EF-EOS R Mount Adapter?"

That answer was "No."

The Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R (basic and control ring versions) has no optics. It simply moves the EF mount forward, offsetting the short back focus design of the RF mount, and provides the communication connections required for the lens to function as native. Hoped for was that the open space in the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R would permit an RF extender to fit into the back of it, ideally making all EF and EF-S lenses extender compatible. Unfortunately, the Canon RF extenders do not fit into the Canon mount adapter."

An aftermarket brand item, both telextender and RF-to-EF adapter, might be compatible with each other.

Canon's adapter has a similar baffle but it's shaped a bit differently. Were it my project, I would put it in a lathe and make the ID large enough to accept the extender. This is exactly the sort of thing a lathe is for.

The workmanship they show in the "Hacked" article is, well, a real hack job but I get that the purpose was to demonstrate proof of concept with a cheap part. Photographers aren't necessarily machinists.

I wonder if there is a problem with increased reflections with this mod.
