apps for showing the stars

are there any decent apps on android that show you the different stars

There are many. I have used two different ones, both work and do what they are suppose to do but there are many more out there. I have Sky Map now and can't remember what the other one was called but it did the same thing. Just hold the phone in fromt of you and the screen will show you what you are looking at. It's handy. But your best bet is to do a search for sky maps and take a look as there are many with different features and costs. Sky Map is free.

SkySafari is in my opinion the best for Android.

I use SkEye for android which is also free.

I have used Sky Map, worked pretty good once set up right, but it kept asking me to turn the phone around three axes to set the compass. Do that often enough and you will drop the phone. So I ended up using it only when in a cushy chair and eventually uninstalled it.
