1. Strange buggy (?) things happened with POST 19464915. The edit log shows: (1) Four characters at the beginning of my reply were removed. I didn't type those char's or do anything with them on editing. I don't know why they were there. (2) I edited in the first place to add the last two words in the post. They were missing the first time. I swear I had included them when submitting.

Those were linefeeds (newlines). Invisible characters.

2. Not answered: POST 19464632, on preceding Changelog page.

Answer is: no, reply HUP's are suppressed also. Like HUP's are shown.

What is HUP??

Pekka this just happened again and I'm wondering if it's just an internet bottleneck.

I went to LIKE a post but nothing happened, so I hit it again with my stylus (Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G) and again nothing.
Held the stylus down and it asked to view in new window (standard performance, okay) Didn't open, just released stylus and prompt closed.
Then hit REPLY again and I got the response CLOSE. as the dialogue box opened.
Hit CLOSE and then REPLY and all good

I'm pretty sure this is device bug in touch/pen interface of that device/OS. A good hint about this is that the problem is not always reproducible, i.e action is "flakey".

The click/action code is interpreted by device and browser. What my code basically does is to say "when this item on screen is clicked or tapped, do this". I do not have any code there to check the screen and it's sensors, that is browser in work.

I do not have access to that tablet, sorry, else I could check it out personally.

How do I set my notifications up the way they were BEFORE this 'update?' This 'heads up' thing is quite annoying now. There must be a way to customize what I do/don't see, yes?

Moving HUP (Heads UP) can be possible of course, but how the position is remembered or not is another issue. In editor, toolbox positions can be saved for each resolution, but with HUP that can be confusing. I could add bottom left/right position, though.
.

.
I really love the heads up box and like to leave it up for extended periods of time. . It helps me to not forget anything that I want to take a look at. . But it's fixed position is troublesome because it blocks so much of the posts that I am trying to read ... so I have to scroll and scroll a lot to get the text in each post in a position where it isn't obscured by the heads up box.

If I could just move that heads up box around to wherever I want it on my screen, that would make things so much easier! . I don't need the software to "remember" where I move the heads up box to. . I wouldn't mind moving it each and every time it pops up. . Just being able to move it out of the way is all I need for the way I use the forum.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I checked your HUPs and there does not seem any excessive amounts, only some per day. If you want, you can suppress HUPs from your own threads e.g. https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1491264&page=1 by going to bottom of page https://photography-on-the.net/forum/fyeo.php?show=headsup and adding thread id 1491264 there.

That helps, thanks. It's just strange to get the same notifications I was already getting via the 'Notifications' tab, that still exists.

I love that purple tab!

It is so much better to have something right there to click on, instead of having to go into the FYEO page and then get to notifications from there. . The more things we can have right up front, and not have buried in another page, the better.

It's not just strange, it's redundant. To slither out from under what feels like information overkill, I'm learning how to handle the new kinds of Heads Ups. Some of them: follow up on their links. Others: dismiss because I already knew that or else I'll find out in my customary way. The ones that contain different kinds of messages: look carefully to see what's there, then act accordingly for each component.

You might want to simplify your routine by undoing some notifications.

Pekka, I love the new notification system with Replies and Quoted directly accessible via Notifications. I don’t get the new Heads Up though as we now also get a HU for a Reply. Isn’t that redundant, seeing as Replies are already covered in Notifications?

Also, when a post of mine is replied to as well as liked I get a HU with two separate notifications: one for the Like, one for the Reply but the links will bring me to the same thing. It’s rather odd and unnecessary. Plus I have to click now, be it on the links in the HU or closing the HU window, because any link not clicked on in HU and the HU window won’t close automatically.

We can choose top or bottom placement for it now. See the small print at its bottom. But my laptop screen is too small for any HUp placement that won't block 1/6 of a photo.

 What I'd like is a collapsible HUp. Click/tap to reduce it to a narrow blue band, c/t again to expand it.

HU for a Reply is bad? :)

Like HU link goes to your post.
Reply HU points link to the reply.

We can tune this system of course, like adding few boxes to tick in Heads Up settings for which things you want to make a HU.

Plus I have to click now, be it on the links in the HU or closing the HU window, because any link not clicked on in HU and the HU window won’t close automatically.

I have also noticed sometimes the clear procedure fails. I'll look into that but I'll have a small break in coding.

No, not bad. :-) Just kinda unnecessary as the notification for a Reply is already done in Replies (in Notifications).

Like HU link goes to your post.
Reply HU points link to the reply.

I didn’t word that very well, did I? :-P My point is that both go to more or less the same location. I mean, there is a dialogue going on, people reply to one another, likes are given and with HU’s for both replies and likes you get links to pretty much the same place.

We can tune this system of course, like adding few boxes to tick in Heads Up settings for which things you want to make a HU.

That would be nice. I like it just as it was before, with just HU’s for Likes (and official stuff). Notifications take care of all the rest. Maybe other people feel differently. So yeah, options would be nice.

I have also noticed sometimes the clear procedure fails. I'll look into that but I'll have a small break in coding.

I haven’t seen it fail. But if you don’t click on the links, the HU window stays open. As it should, right, until you manually close it?

See my reply there. Reply postid <> Like postid, Pretty much the same, but not.

HU can be closed by either the "X" or by "Thanks, seen it!" button. Then, All HU's there are moved to history page: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/fyeo.php?show=headsup
