I never shot basketball with my 1D4, but I believe that member TeamSpeed has shot thousands and thousands of B-ball images with his. He would be a good resource for info about this.

As for noise, I found that my 1D4 gave very acceptable results up to 1600 ISO. . Any higher than that and one would have to use some kind of software to remove noise, in order to not see any graininess at all. . But what is "acceptable" in terms of noise grain varies greatly from one individual to another, so you may be satisfied with ISO 3200 results without any noise removal.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

1D4 is great for basketball. I was able to clean up images from 6400, sometimes 12800, with very little drama.

Tips:
- don’t underexpose and pull up images later, results are better if you just up the ISO a bit hot at higher levels and lower exposure in post
- use noiseware or other noise programs and learn how to use them, sliders, etc.
- sharpen images after noise cleanup not before
- keep shutter speeds high like 1/1000 or faster
- don’t crop too much, it’s an apsh 1.3 crop so try to frame as best you can in camera to make use of the 16Mpx you have to work with.

These tips also work for the 7d and 7d2.

I am looking at getting a 1D IV to go with my 1Ds Mk.III.
The Mk.III is peaked at 3200 and struggles in some high school gyms.
I borrowed a 5D Mk.3 and shot ISO 8000 and liked them.
I dabble a little in LR Classic.Enough to get decent images.
Same day 1 is a college game , one is a high school.
Like I said not very good at LR Classic.
