I’ve probably got thousands of shots from the last 15 years, so rather than just letting them reside in my computer I should start sharing the beautiful world that I live in.
I almost never see the underside of the beautiful Io moth, so here is one I like. And another from the top.

How do you like these fake snake eyes that even have a little hint of catch-light, not to mention bulging. This is a Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly caterpillar. I wish I had been quicker, or had a third hand to prod it with a straw. Its forked fake snake tongue was out, but is almost retracted while I tried to re-find focus after fooling with it. The tongue thing is it’s osmeterium, which is employed when a bird try’s to take a taste, and it’s suppose to taste awful. However it has never eaten anything but sassafras leaves which is what makes gumbo yaya, so I’m a little tempted to taste it. He he
