Hi there!!! So new to this forum but I am looking to see what the BEST software (that would not be too costly) would be to start doing small event photos similar to a "santa photo at the mall". It would be a fundraiser for a gymnastics club. I would basically shoot tethered, the client would choose a package (maybe have something that would let them put a name or event name or frame) then print onsite. any help would be appreciated. I can only find the DSLR booth software (the 8x10 print size software is 200$) but I don't want it to run like a photo booth so that isn't exactly what I need. HELP PLEASE!!! :)

I've never done what you are getting ready to try, so ......

My guess is the software is not the most important.

What is important is your computer and printer being calibrated and profiled, to give acuurate print colors.

Affinity Photo probably the least expensive software.

Thanks. I am just looking to find something that I can easily print quick packages....for example 2 5x7s and an 8x10. etc.

I am looking at the epson printers and the computer I will use is my macbook with my camera so all the gear should be fine I just want to have a seamless experience for the clients if that makes sense

Are you going to do both the shooting and printing at gymnastics events? Action shots or just portrait type shots?

What gear do you have? Can the propriety software do it?

You will likely have everything like exposures set up so you will shoot in Jpeg? If so you don't need elaborate software. I know you aren't looking for photo booth software but there are some free and inexpensive ones at the app store. Apple Photos has a print option.

Might want to look at some of the photo booth software packages. They seem to do a lot of what you are looking for. Found this one for free. :) Can't beat that price.

You can use print templates in Lightroom Classic so that you can make multiple copies of one file on a larger piece of paper, say multiple wallet prints plus a 5x7 on a 8x10 sheet of paper. Stock Lightroom comes with some premade templates but you can also create your own.

it is just going to be some portraits for the rec gymnasts as a fundraiser for the gym. So I will be taking the photos but would rather them buy on the spot then set something up online with a gallery for purchase later. does that make sense? So I don't want it to be a photo booth type interaction but more of a pick your prints and be on your way.

So I am going to have my whole set up with backdrops and lights, shoot tethered to my laptop. So I should have all the exposure and everything I need set so that I can just shoot jpeg.

That should be easier than doing action shots to try to sell the athletes/parents, at least from a logistical side

LrC is good for that purpose but a subscription for $10 a month.

Actually, the parts of Lightroom needed work without a subscription. Only the develop module stops working according to The Lightroom Queen (external link)

"Here’s the good news! If your subscription expires, you can continue to use Lightroom Classic excluding the Develop module, Map module and mobile sync. Photoshop also stops working, of course.

Yes, you read that correctly! You can import new photos, add metadata, organize them, search for specific photos, do rough edits using Quick Develop, apply Develop presets, create books, slideshows and web galleries, email and publish photos on social media, export and print your edited photos… nothing is lost!"

So if you get it right in camera you could actually use Lightroom for free.

I've never tried this and I'm not sure how you would get LR Classic software but this is not something most people know about Lightroom.

That is true but there is a penalty if you quit because you have to commit to a year. You just sign up for the plan, download the install app and load what apps you like to work with. One thing about LrC which is not cloud based. All files have to be stored locally. You can sync to the cloud but that just sends smart previews.

The only reason I mentioned is because the plan comes with a personal website that is integrated with LrC. You can sync collections and download them to your site. You can see mine on the website link below. If you quit the plan you lose your site.
