Is there such a thing as a good quality one that isn't a ridiculous price? I've been buying these cheap ones but the brass pins bend so easily so just about every time, I have to take a needle and find the bent pin and get it back where it belongs so I can insert the card. It's a royal pain. Pictured is the type I have now.

I had similar problems with pins bending on a reader I was using. I replaced it with this several years ago and have been very happy with it:

Thanks but my older computer doesn't have a USB C input.

Sorry about that, that's not the one I'm using - I don't have USB-C either, just USB-2. This appears to be the one I'm using, USB-3 but compatible with USB-2:

I have several but have never had any problems with pins. I do have the Unitek one shown above. That one is mostly used for travel as it's so small. I also have this one for my desktop. It's handy because it can handle different media.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

This is what I use, quite rugged but in one way that may be a shortcoming as it is physically large. It attaches to a USB-A port using a short cable that is perhaps about 8 inches long. There is also a Lexar plug in type reader called Lexar RW310 Memory Card Reader. Google it as it might fill your needs while remaing quite small.

I did end up getting this one and liked it from the start. The card goes in and out easily. I just leave it hooked up to my PC and pop the card in when needed. Thanks for the recommendation.

PixelFlash "No-Bend Pins™ CF Reader

https://pixelflash.tech …-3-0-superspeed-cf-reader (external link)

As I mentioned above, the main marketing point for this CF reader is that it has special pins that will not bend. This is no doubt a great feature to have, nothing sucks worse than not being able to read your CF card due to the pins being busted on your reader. The key to these no bend pins is the deep channels used to guide the card into place, on this reader they are about 3 times the length on your average card reader. This prevents the card from getting off track and bending the pins due to being misaligned.

Obviously, there are reviews.

I also like PixelFlash - had it in my photo bag for I don't remember how many years and it never failed me. Compact design and no wires to deal with.
