Hi, I recently upgraded from a 6D to an R6 and I'm used to using auto ISO pretty much all the time.

However, I noticed that the ISO often doesn't switch to auto after the 100 setting when turning the default ISO dial.

I later read that you can't change to auto when the camera is metering (after half pressing the shutter button). This is really annoying as I have to wait about 15s for the metering to stop before I can change it.

Am I missing something, or if not is there anyway round this?

Confused....

Are you changing ISO from auto to 100, and then want to change it back, or are you saying the camera, upon metering, selects 100, and then leaves it there for too long?

No, I turn the camera on and the ISO is somewhere other than auto. I then turn the dial down but it only goes as far as 100. If I touch the ISO button on the screen I can then scroll down past 100 to auto. Then using the dial I can go up and back down to auto again.

If I half press the shutter to meter, I'm stuck again, only being able to go down as low as 100.

Yes, this does not work in a convenient way. I just use the menu to change to auto ISO. I have it setup on a green menu page. It is not optimal and should be available from the dial.

On my R6, I have ISO settings as one of 4 or so settings assigned to the Mfn. I can choose auto from that no matter what, I can set a specific ISO, or go right back and select Auto. I cannot get it to lock that down so I cannot scroll to auto?

I don't have any other button configured to bring up ISO, so maybe that is the difference here?

Thanks for confirming, I thought it might have been something I was doing wrong.

Thanks, looks like I need to continue experimenting with button customisation, I'm sure I'll find a config that works.

Start with page 781:

This is for the R, but I believe is very similar. This person turned off all other selections from mFn and only put ISO on it. That process may be useful to read through and figure out what your needs are.

It's at least normal. The R3 works the same.

As does the R5...irritates me a bit in the field, just not enough to customize settings around.

It is annoying
However when I am in M mode and using the 3 dials for aperture/shutter/iso it prevents me from accidentally changing iso to auto (i assume this is why they did it)

Try using the mFn button to deal with ISO, after a bit it becomes second nature, you cannot accidentally change the value, and you can set it to ANY ISO value including auto.

Good point, I'm sure there must be a reason.

Good suggestion, I'm currently in two minds about what to use the M-Fn button for, it's currently set to drive mode, as I think I can live with setting ISO to auto from the touch screen. For now at least - it's early days.
