Somewhere I seem to remember that Canon has a minimum $150 charge. I tried finding that thread but it was some time ago.

I am located in the Baltimore area, so I may not be too far from you. Not opposed to going a different route than Canon service. I tried the one place that I know that might do the repair and they no longer do camera repairs, just sales and coordinate repairs through Canon. According to them, Canon has made it very difficult, if not impossible, to get the replacement parts. If you know places/individuals that would repair, I am interested. I don't have any personal experience but one that should be near you is mentioned in the article at https://petapixel.com …d-the-digital-revolution/

Feb 06, 2023 12:15 | #20 Well, that was quick.....Just heard back from Canon. The quote is $529 for cleaning, repairing/replacing the dial, and 6 month warranty. I have reached out to the places John mentioned, but have not heard back yet.

If so, that is probably about $100 of the repair there. That is a borderline price for me too, if my 5D4 had the issues. I would weigh the differences of fixing and then selling it versus selling it on ebay or whatever as-is to see what I could get. I figure getting it fixed and selling it would still net me about $700-800, which I could use toward another purchase. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

joeseph "smells like turd" More info | Feb 06, 2023 14:39 | #23 does seem a bit expensive - but then they're upselling/adding on services that you haven't asked for? some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Teamspeed, according to Canon's maintenance site, a "7-Point image sensor cleaning" includes CLEAN IMAGE SENSOR; CLEAN MIRROR (If Applicable); CLEAN FOCUS SCREEN; CLEAN EXTERNAL VIEWFINDER; CLEAN EXTERNAL LCD SURFACES; CLEAN CAMERA BODY; and VERIFY FIRMWARE VERSION AND UPDATE (If Applicable). I have not talked to the shop yet, but this is probably the service that they are including along with the repair.

AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Feb 09, 2023 09:31 | #28 If this is a fairly standard repair, maybe some of the other repair shops could give you a sight-unseen estimate. I do that all the time... if it's truly just a specific problem that I'm familiar with, I pretty much know what it'll cost. And if it isn't, then the price will change. Image editing and C&C always OK

TeamSpeed 01010100 01010011 More info Post edited 8 months ago by TeamSpeed. | There is a market for non working or partially non working cameras, you just list on ebay or whatever as "for repair or parts", and there are folks that buy these up and part them out (or repair them with parts from other cameras) just like in the automotive space.
