I am not sure if you missed the context of my comment or not?

5D4s marked for repair or parts are going for that amount... IE. if you have a broken 5D4, that is what you can expect to get.

...If it's the dial by the shutter button that's faulty then definately get it repaired - part number is cg2-5253-000 ...

I decided to give this a try. One particular video on YouTube was especially descriptive on each step and was a great guide. 34 screws for all of the body panels and 5 screws for the dial assembly. Voila. The new dial feels great and is more responsive, like new.

excellent result! did you take photos of the process?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Yes, I snapped one as each panel came off and a couple of the dial swap. 10 total.

Ps..I applied a light coat of silicone to the soft (rubber?) seals during reassembly to hopefully assure weather sealing continues.

Well done, you're braver than I would have been.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

This thread cursed me.

The main dail (behind the shutter button) on my Canon 5D Mark IV is hit and miss...and getting worse. I ordered a new main dial assembly direct from Canon for $41 shipped. I also found a local repair shop that quoted me $222-$296 for the repair. Although I did find a video on YouTube detailing the repair.

So while I wait for the part to come in the mail I'm trying to decide whether to have the camera shop do ti for piece of mind or do it myself.

Might be useful to post up links to the YouTube detailing the repair. Mine is still good for now but I sense "The Ring" effect for those that have joined this thread. :):)

I have a few dead spots on my 7D2 main dial. It hasn't been an issue but if I can buy a new one for only $45 I'd probably take a crack at it myself if the local camera shop won't. I read something indicating that this would be a $500 repair at Canon so that's out of the question for me.

I ended up getting mine repaired by canon. I saw the video before I made this decision and was not comfortable with the process. I am a DIYer, but with my main camera, I was not going to risk it.

The video is very well done, but there are just a lot of steps involved.

I have a lot of left in my camera as well. Absolutely worth getting mine repaired.

I looked for a long time yesterday for a well-made video on doing this repair for the 7D2. Nothing. Plenty of music with no narration, terribly dark video, people who were obviously figuring it out for the first time and doing things in a haphazard order. I thought I could find at least one that said, "First we're doing this because X, and only then can we do this which gives access to that..." but no. Not even close.

I bet if Lensrentals did one it would be awesome. They have a pictorial for the 7D2, though.
