I decided to give this a try. One particular video on YouTube was especially descriptive on each step and was a great guide. 34 screws for all of the body panels and 5 screws for the dial assembly. Voila. The new dial feels great and is more responsive, like new. .

Mine is still good for now but I sense "The Ring" effect for those that have joined this thread. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Apr 06, 2023 11:17 | #40 I have a few dead spots on my 7D2 main dial. It hasn't been an issue but if I can buy a new one for only $45 I'd probably take a crack at it myself if the local camera shop won't. I read something indicating that this would be a $500 repair at Canon so that's out of the question for me. Image editing and C&C always OK

Apr 06, 2023 12:57 | #42 I ended up getting mine repaired by canon. I saw the video before I made this decision and was not comfortable with the process. I am a DIYer, but with my main camera, I was not going to risk it.

AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Apr 07, 2023 18:15 | #45 I looked for a long time yesterday for a well-made video on doing this repair for the 7D2. Nothing. Plenty of music with no narration, terribly dark video, people who were obviously figuring it out for the first time and doing things in a haphazard order. I thought I could find at least one that said, "First we're doing this because X, and only then can we do this which gives access to that..." but no. Not even close. Image editing and C&C always OK
