I thought Canon RAW Burst mode sounded neat, but Lightroom won't read the file that contains all the individual files created by the burst. (I use Lightroom to cull/edit/convert.)

So I downloaded Canon's Digital Photo Professional software expecting to be able to extract individual RAW files from the burst file. But it looks as though you can only extract JPG's and TIFF's.

Really? Surely I just haven't found the way to do this. Is there really no way to get the individual RAW files out of the burst file? I don't want to use DPP for RAW conversion. Thanks in advance.

Sure you can extract the files as raws. Either in camera or in DPP. In DPP you need to go to Tools (top menu), choose Start RAW Burst Image Tool, choose an image you want to extract and then click Save. I think the default format to save the file in is raw.

EDIT: Found this video on YT. DPP starts at the 5 minute mark.

Thanks for replying!

For me, the Save button inside the RAW Burst Image Tool just places the frame(s) I select into a new RAW burst file, it does not extract regular RAW files that can be read by Lightroom. During the save process, the extension is .CR3 so it looks like it's exporting a regular RAW file, but it's just another RAW burst file. I'm on DPP version 4.17.10.0.

That’s odd. Have you tried saving it to another folder?
Here’s a screenshot from the Adobe Help pages. It should work.

Hmmmm. Well that screen gives me some hope. I tried saving to another folder, same results. Tried two different cameras also. Here's a couple of screenshots.

In screenshot #1, I have selected frames 10-12 of 36 to save from RAW Burst file "8X7A3345.CR3" . I clicked the save button on the right that says "Extract specified range and save separately" when you hover over it.

Screenshot #2 shows the resulting file "8X7A3345_10_12.CR3". Note the little stacked R icon indicating it's a RAW burst file. I can open this file in the RAW Burst Image Tool. Lightroom won't read it.

You used the wrong save button. The button with the stack symbol extracts a selected series of images from the roll into a separate roll!

Try saving with the other button with R.

a-ha! That button on the left extracts "regular" RAW files, one at a time. The button on the right "extracts specified range and saves separately" into a new burst file. I was looking for a button to extract the specified range into regular RAW files, but one at a time is still useful.

Thanks Levina!
