On my old 21.5" iMac I was running LR5 with a number of bought and free presets installed - I loved it and the set up was great for my needs for batch processing images (photos of my daughters ballet group - white background etc)

Due to how old my iMac was, I've now bought a new 24" iMac - The old software doesn't work on my new Mac, and I have recently tried to the new LR CC as a free 7-day trial, but hated the set up and couldn't seem to find a way on it to batch process - it only seemed to allow me to edit one photo at a time...

Is there anyway I can get my old presets across to my new iMac 24 AND get a version of Lightroom installed on my new iMac, running like I was used to?
Hope this makes sense!

Make sure you are running ,ightroom classic and not the web based lightroom. Both are included in the subscription but LRC will be more familiar to you.

Yes. There is no Lightroom CC anymore. Creative Cloud is the install app. There is Lightroom Classic or LrC which like your LR5 requires local file storage. You can sync to the cloud if you choose to but it only sends smart previews there, not your actual files.

Lightroom or Lr was introduce in 2016 and files are atomically sent to the cloud. Lr is not as robust as LrC. Meant for mobile applications.

Note that LrC and Lr were never meant to installed and both used on the same device. Both want to be the boss. People have found workarounds but if you are starting out it’s a good idea to not use both until you feel ready and want to. I’ve been on the plan since 2016 and I have never installed Lr.

With the plan you also get a personal website called Portfolio which is integrated with LrC. Currently I just upload single files to my site.

Thank you, I think I'll download the free trial and see how I get on... Can I still import my bought presets I had on my old iMac if I pay monthly...?

Agreed

LRC is much better!

Save your old presets. They are probably in the old lrtemplate format. Once you get LRC up and running it will convert the old format to the new xmp format.

There is actually quite a lot of good new stuff in LrC now compared to Lr5. The AI masking is very good, at least as a starting point. They do sometimes need a little refining. Also I do like the RAW HDR, and Panoramic merge to .DNG options. Works really well if if you are hand holding the camera. Oh and it even does HDR Panoramas. They are my goto new features over the old pre subscription versions.

I also sync some collections to the cloud. Then access them on Lr on the cloud, as I find it the best way to manage my Adobe Portfolio website.

You can sync the data once you upload to Lightroom. Like if you are using Lightroom CC on your Mac and you upload there you can sync the data on your Lightroom app on iPhone through cloud storage. New Lightroom has many features like HDR, RAW mode. You can fine-tune backgrounds (external link).

First, you'll need to get a version of Lightroom that works on your new Mac. Since your old version doesn't work, you can either buy the newest version (Lightroom Classic) or subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud and get access to Lightroom and other Adobe programs for a monthly fee.

Once you have Lightroom up and running, you can transfer your presets over from your old computer. The easiest way to do this is to copy the preset files (they'll have a .lrtemplate extension) onto a USB drive or some other type of external storage. Then, you can plug that into your new Mac and copy the preset files over to the appropriate folder on your new computer.

To batch process photos in Lightroom, you'll want to use the "Sync Settings" feature. This allows you to apply the same edits to multiple photos at once. Just select the photos you want to edit in the Library module, go to the Develop module and make your edits, then click the "Sync..." button in the lower-right corner of the screen. Check the boxes next to the settings you want to apply (such as exposure, white balance, etc.) and click "Synchronize" to apply the changes to all the selected photos.
