What would you buy if there was no difference in price after paying sales tax on the new one? I had the A7RIII so I don't know if going down to 24 mp will be a problem. I do sometimes crop quite a bit and the Sony did great. Any have a crop from both cameras?

If you crop "quite a bit", then maybe the R5. Full frame, full rez, 45mp is often much more than I need.

I like the 30mp range as I don't tend to crop much. I recently sold my 5D4  for an R5 only for the joystick over the original R, not the resolution. (I've become a mirrorless fan for the size and focus peaking with my kit of MF lenses.) I also just picked up a Leica Q to see if I'd like it enough to score a Q2 (and I do!), and barely gave the 24mp a second thought. I haven't cropped anything off those files, as the way I shoot it is 100%.

If you habitually crop, go for the extra resolution.

I had an R6 and borrowed an R5, and I didn't notice any difference apart from the resolution. I personally don't think it's worth the massive jump in price, but if you can get a used R5 for about the same price and it's in good condition with a good warranty, I'd go for the R5. You might also need a bigger hard disk :-)

I bought the R6II but comparing files shot with the Sony A7RIII that I sold I think I am going to miss the extra resolution.

In another life (pre-Covid), we went for a photo-safari in Kruger Nationa Park in South Africa. We came back bringing 4800 photos mostly (98%) from 2 crop cameras (a rented 7D2 and my own 60D). One thing I can say, you can't have enough Megapixels for cropping!

...and I've done worse crops!
