If someone prefers the Adobe offerings (I do) the subscription route is much cheaper than my previous approach of upgrading LR and PS every 2nd major release.

If the OP contacts Adobe support I’d be pretty surprised if they wouldn’t provide him a link to a version that will work with his hardware.

Interesting thread though …

I use DPP and CS5. I think amortized, I pay about $2.25 a month. I tried LR and it just didn’t fit me. There is nothing I lack with this setup that adobe would help me. It is interesting to see different perspectives.

I provided a link that seemed to have vs21.xxx downloadable installers.

I have been using DPP a lot more lately since picking up a SX70. DPP does a seriously better job converting the SX70 raw files than ARC does. I can post some samples if interested but not until tomorrow.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

lol. what version of LR did they end the purchase plan on? i think i heard LR7? that might not be right but that number is in my head.

im running LR5.71 bought LR4 but it came with the free upgrade to 5.1 (at the time) and it upgraded automatically until LR6 came out. i got that but it only came with 2 licenses so i put it on my wife and daughter's laptops. funny. neither of them really do much editing and im still on 5.71...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

the version I had was the last version to work on this hardware. I pay for an Adobe account, why would I go out a buy a program. makes no sense. I get LR, LRC with the plan.

Not sure if this is true or not but someone on another site said they were beta testing noise reduction AI. Something I have been waiting for. Neural NR is already in PS, Neural filters wait list. Only a matter of time.

Hardware makes a big difference. Being a parametric editor LrC did run slower than other software. Adobe has been upgrading performance and these days both LrC and PS both fly on my iMac and lowly MacBook Air. The Air is 2020, 16GB, 250GB SSD, with the M chip and I swear it is faster than my 2019 iMac with 64GB RAM. I've tested LrC doing over 50 masks, etc and no issues.

Before my new iMac the old could not handle 3rd party AI software. Using Topaz DeNoise the results were awful. Someone at Topaz told me to crop my file to 50% and try it it. That worked. AI software eats VRAM so I made sure to get 8GB for my iMac. As for the Air I must say the M chip is truly amazing.

Sorry for going off topic a bit. You never know where sharing experiences will lead to.

PS was really expensive to upgrade. I went 2 -> 4 -> 6. Combined with a couple of (much less pricey) LR upgrades it averaged a lot more than $120/y for a subscription. The subscription plan is not a great deal if you only use LR.

it's saying I need a CPU with SSE4.2 support, which I don't have, and my motherboard has the newest cpu it can handle. so, I need new everything.

Support for SSE4.2 has been around since about 2008, just how old is your computer?

There were ways to pick up PS cheaply. My way was that my kids were in photography class, so they were able to get PS as a student.

I bought the whole CS5 suite with illustrator, etc. very cheaply. I added the free NIK filters, and bought Noiseware. These have served me well for nearly a decade now, and raw is through DPP. I don’t need newer NR tools because a) I have my own techniques using these tools and b) cameras keep getting better needing less NR and DPP is improved. My monthly amortized cost is about $3 or so a month. I bought LR in the past, saw where they were headed, and went the opposite direction.

Now my kids in school would have to pay $240 each year for the suite, and never stop paying to use the products where it was maybe $300-500 to buy it outright.

However these days there are other products just as good as photoshop or better in some ways, at much lower costs as well, if one wanted to look at options.

I originally purchased RAWShooter, so after Adobe purchased the code and released Lightroom, they gave LR1 to RAWShooter owners. Upgrades to LR were only $99, and one could skip upgrade versions...so it was truly inexpensive...$99 would be necessary only every 12 or 24 months.
For pixel editing, I used Paintshop Pro, and simply by being slow on the uptake, one could get upgrades for under $50.

Go here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen (external link)

And start a chat and ask for a direct download link to the version you require.

And let them know that they are dead to you, because that is super productive.

Kirk

Here is a discussion on the Adobe forum about the same issue you are having. It took 5 seconds to google it.

Here is a curated archive of direct download links:

See if that gets you what you need.

Did you give support a call? I'm guessing that they have a link somewhere to older versions.

BTW, what processor do you have?
