I currently have the EF 24-105 mk 1 and have not bought the R6 mk II. I was thinking of upgrading to the 24-105 mk ii when I still had my 5D4 but am wondering if that would be a waste of money versus spending a little bit more and getting the RF 24-105?

I heard that the EF has a metal base while the RF is plastic but I have heard but not sure that the RF is sharper.

I would like to get some opinions on which to get and why?

The RF 24-105L has a metal mount. I currently own that lens, and used to own the EF Mk 1 lens. The RF version is a worthwhile upgrade, IMO. It's better built, provides an improvement in image quality, and eliminates the need of the adapter. My EF lens developed an issue with the image stabilization, though, so I may be biased regarding its poor build quality.

Thank you. I Have never had an issue with mine and already have the adapter. Just trying to decide if it is a big enough improvement for my 2nd camera, my primary being the R7 for BIF. I don't use the FF that often but it is nice when I do although usually with telephotos.

I need to do some testiing with the R6 and the EF Mk 1 to see the IQ

I have the RF 24-105/4 and am very impressed with it. I use it on my R5. I am kind of a newby in the world of FF, having always shot crop - until I bought the aforementioned items a couple years ago. And I was amazed at the quality of the images.

So that is anecdotal, and maybe it is just the wonder of the FF format, so don't go by my opinion. But wow, it is a good lens. :-D

It's really too bad that Canon doesn't make a pro quality RF-S 18-85mm/2.8 lens (say) for the crop cameras, because it might rival the capabilities of the FF gear. But they don't - so far. Therefore if I am shooting models or landscapes, I need the 24-105 lens. And of course I put it on the FF body.

No regrets so far! Not even if they come out with a pro RFS lens.

I hear the RF lenses are better than the EF lenses, but of course they are very expensive. If you can get a deal on the RF 24-105 as a kit, it might be worth considering.
