We've had an interesting Winter with birds. There is a lot of snow at elevation and mountain dwellers have come down. In 18 years we've never had Steller's Jays and Mountain Bluebirds hanging around. We've also been lucky to have a Lewis's Woodpecker here for a week, still trying to get some decent photos of him.

The Moutain Bluebird is the one without the crest. I was really photographing the Lewis's Woodpecker when I saw activity a bit away, turned the tripod and was surprised to see these guys.

insufferably pedantic. I can live with that.

Your mountain bluebird looks a lot like our scrub jays.

Interesting, I looked up the Scrub Jay and it does. I sent these pictures to the local Audobon and they confirmed my ID. We've had Western
Bluebirds in the yard a few times, I didn't get any photos when they were here, they pass through in flocks.

That is most definitely not a Mountain Bluebird. It is a Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay. Among other differences, one can plainly see the thin, white eyebrow stripe which Mountain Bluebirds do not have.
