I'm currently running both LrC and Lr on my PC. I do pretty much all my processing on LrC. I do have LrC set up so that it syncs certain collections to the Adobe cloud. I can then fire up Lr and use those images from those collections in my Adobe Portfolio website directly. In the Portfolio management page I can create a new page and just bring in the images that I want for a gallery page. You even have the option to sync a collection directly from Lr, and so essentially from LrC, so that the web page is also synced. I haven't tried that yet, I've been keeping the various galleries I've been posted more subject specific.

Alan

Thanks for the info. I have not tried it but I know people do it. At first there were a lot of discussions how how to get around it. If anyone wants to get into this I always suggest to ask first.

I don't think it is overpriced if you only use LrC. Compare it to C1 annual updates and other competitors it is pretty reasonable. I know you don't have to upgrade stand alone licenses.

It certainly would have been a substantial price increase for me had I moved to Adobe's subscription plan. When they offered a perpetual license for Lightroom, I would generally upgrade every 24 - 30 months, at around $80 per upgrade. That was, at worst, $40 per year, which is 1/3rd the price of an annual subscription.

Whether the cost increase is worth it is a different matter and entirely a personal choice. I'm sure that Adobe doesn't miss me as a customer, since I spent so little on Lightroom per year. I know that I don't miss LR since moving on to a different product.

Valid point. From my perspective I don't want to know how much I spent on camera gear from when I purchased my first DSLR and lens in 2005. That would give me heart attack. Compare to that I look at $120 a year as an entertainment expense. I always upgraded standalone with every new release so it didn't make much difference. It is definitely a personal choice.

ive only ever used PS Elements (and that was version 10). i have LR 5.71 on my computer right now. LR6 only gave you two licenses and i put them on my wife and daughter's computers. now my daughter no longer takes pictures and she cant find the program disk!

i really dont want to go to the subscription. i have enough things that need to be renewed every year and i just feel like im getting nickel and dimed to death.

If you have a valid license contact Adobe and you can download LR6. If you can't find it call them anyway.

Agree. Before switching to the PS/LR subscription I purchased LR and all of my LR and PS upgrades direct from Adobe. When I log into my Adobe account I can see all of the product I’ve purchased and still download those versions.

As long as someone registered their products they’ll still have access to them. Just need to remember the email addy you used :-)

Lightroom 6 is really old now, and its biggest problem is of course the lack of support for new camera raw files. I understand that you don't want to switch to a subscription system. Classic has absolutely amazing local adjustments that can't be compared to LR6. For example, it can automatically make a mask for skies or faces, which is incredibly useful and works perfectly and reliably. In addition, it's definitely much faster, at least in my experience on Windows 10 and 11. I think you really won't regret it.

One can work around by using some of the other perpetual license RAW converters than massaging the frame in LR6. Or remain with older gear. The later RAW applications off some pretty powerful tools that make editing much nicer than what LR6 has. I still use LR6 for simple conversions that don't require much massaging though I have old gear which allows me to keep using it.

As a long time user of Lightroom I could never go back to LR6. I couldn't have done it by LrC 8 and currently it's LrC 12. However I am using the latest so I can't speak for others. LR6 has not been supported since 2017 and while a good developer so much has changed in 6 years. Even computers start getting close to replacement by that time. Maybe 3 years with LR6 but by that time I would found something more current to work with that gets regular support. That is just me. Lot of good competition out there. I often read about people still happy with LR6 and I've seen as far back as LR4. The LightRoom Queen forums still have a very active section dedicated to LR6 and older. However with older hardware, OS upgrades, etc sometimes the advice is best to move on. If it still works and people are happy with it why not use it.

I'm on a Mac. When I had an older one I learned the hard way that AI eats VRAM. I could not run Topaz Denoise AI without cropping files to 50%. I knew AI was just going to keep coming so when I got new iMac in 2019 I got 8GB VRAM to future proof. Adobe Denosie is not blazing at 45 seconds but that is how long Topaz Photo AI and DXO PureRAW 3 with DeepPrime "XD" took.

Some interesting bits of info.

I just sprung for the LRC/LR12 subscription and I can NOT find the gradient filter. It was pretty handy when dealing with landscape-esque images with a blown out sky...

Anyone know where it went?

Yeah, you click on that mandella-like icon on the right hand side and then look at what pops up. It's different depending on whether you have already done a mask for the pic or not. It's an extra step now because of all the additional masking options.

My Leica M-E 220 came with free LR6. I still have this camera and no plans to add anything new for now. If I would, it is going to be a camera with DNG. :) Any new Leica camera comes with DNG files.

And even if not DNG, I bet Adobe Bridge is using exactly the same coding to deal with newer cameras new RAW files. And it is free.

One thing I'm going to be ashamed for asking ...

Why do I need to heavy process well exposed image with new functions?

I buy capable cameras and quality lenses. Why do I need to heavy process it?

My Canon 5D with 50L was so good, I switched to JPEG1 only, it was so good.

Are new camera so bad, they can't take decent SOOC picture?

If so, it sucks and paying subscription to get it fixed sucks even more. Sounds like wasting money for been hosed.

I never shoot JPGs on my Canon cameras, so I don't know how they would look. But I know if I switch to RAW on my phone, those photos look very drab compared to the JPGs it makes. And I think that is because the phone processes the JPGs heavily. I'm pretty sure all cameras outputting JPGs process their files quite a bit.

All photos are processed. "SOOC" doesn't mean natural. It means processed automatically in the camera. And that will vary with the camera and the settings.

For me, the shoot is just the beginning. Processing is also an artistic endeavour. Sometimes the end result is close to the original. Other times it is so different, it is barely recognizable.

Masking sounds a lot like having to learn about layers.

Thank you
