My 70-200mm L lens is making noise as I turn it, is there a way to oil it

so when I 'm video recording the birds in the backyard, as I turn the zoom, there is some amt. of noise. It's slightly annoying. Is this something a local camera repair store can do or is this something that a drop of oil can fix , if so, can an average person do it?

Probably depends on where the noise is coming from - suggest you get a lens tech to have a look at it rather than attempting a DIY cure unless you're either very capable with a screwdriver or willing to risk scrapping the lens.

I wouldn't suggest oil as you have no control over where it goes... the factory lubrications appears to be some sort of grease.


some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
