Hello all,

First so much thanks to this forum, I first joined here back in 2005 (different user account) when I actually bought my first DSLR, a used 300D right here on the for sale section. Since then I've came here numerous times for the great help and info.

This time is bad though. I dropped my 70D with the attached sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 lens off it's tripod the other day. The camera is fine and even with the lens will take a fine photo if I hold it together. Before I continue I have to confess that some of these terms will likely be wrong, so I'll do my best here. Anyway I took the lens apart and discovered that there are three small screws which hold the barrel to the bayonet mount, and two of these mounts were totally broken. Please see photos to really make sense of what I'm saying. So my question is, is this repairable? Is it something I can do myself? Is it worth it? I'm really bummed because I just bought that lens last year and it was the best more expensive lens I've ever bought. Actually it was a gift from my wife, and no I didn't yet tell her I've broke it.

I personally think the best option here is to fold.

A) sell the lens as parts on eBay giving the exact description as you call it out, you might get about $60-70 for it.

B) get a different copy like from roberts

It will cost you about $100 in the swap but you will have a fully working copy.

The alternative is to use Jb weld, make up a couple dabs worth, place it on the broken mounts, clamp it together for 24 hours and hope it holds. That stuff hardens like a rock when cured.

That link is for the Sigma 17-70 Macro lens. . They're cheap.

I think the OP has the regular Sigma 17-70mm, which is currently selling for $330 to $360 used. . So much more than $100 lost in "the swap".

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I currently own a 400 2.8 which I basically dropped due to how heavy it was... broke the lens mount off the lens and stripped the screw holes in the body of the lens. Kind of like yours, I had no option even after taking it to a camera shop, they said it was toast. I said screw it and used JB weld on the lens mount after re-soldering the contacts and I've shot over 100 football games, and extensive high school sporting events without issue.
