Choosing for Digital Cameras

I know that in the past lens optical qualities (resolution, chromatic aberration, etc.) were important to the final product. My question, at this point in time with newer camera bodies containing software which can "correct flaws" in various lens designs, is it worth paying more for a lens with better optical performance. Or will the software make a lesser lens apps good as the better lens in the final output? Is it better to leave lens correction turned off for a higher quality lens? Do any of you
have any answers?

You can correct a number of lens abberations, but you cannot make 'more detail resolution' via software correction...you cannot make up that which does not exist!

However, to give credit where it's due, I hooked up my old EFS 18-200 to my new R6MkII, more to see how the automatic crop setting works than anything else. Now, the EFS18-200 is nice and sharp, but it has lots of chromatic aberration I did some test shots of a highrise in the distance and I was blown away by the lack of any CA on all those vertical edges having the sky as background. I'll be tempted to use it as a walkaround combo when I want a light package... (my EF24-70+EF/RF adapter is not a light package...)

Yup, software can correct Chromatic Abberation!

With my short experience with modern Canon cameras a.k.a. R series, I was impressed with non-L zoom and prime. Rendering part.
