I have a EF 24-105 f/4 is usm lens I purchased that is pretty soft. I had the exact sames lens 5 years ago and it was tack sharp (bought it new).
Unfortunately I sold all my camera gear and left the hobby for a while. Now starting up again from scratch. I would like to get any suggestions to a repair facility other than Canon I could trust to repair this lens. I have never had any good results when I sent lens to them in the past and do not trust them at all.
Thanks for any help you can provide me.
Dan

can you let us know whereabouts in the world you live? I've used a bloke in Timaru to repair a lens before but I suspect you're not likely to be in NZ.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I see by another thread that you have acquired a 5DII. Have you tried to microadjust this lens to that body?

Yes, I micro-adjust the lens. I also took it to a local camera store that has been in business for decades. I asked to tech that I have known and used before if he would check the micro-focus for me and he said I had done a very good job and didn't need think he could do better either. I have a 70-200 l f2.8 and a 50mm 1.2 that are tack sharp on my camera. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Actually, I am smack in the middle of the USA in Nebraska. Not any actual repair shops here that I can find.
Thanks for your reply.

Soft can be caused by many different things. Can you post a sample or two that you believe shows the problem well? Also, which 24-105? I or II

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

In the middle of everything and close to nothing:rolleyes:

As mentioned, please post some images. Also, there are some places that you might be able to mail the lens to. Is there anyplace in Kansas City?

Just an FYI: I had the same problem with the same lens. Told the Canon SoCal service center the focus was soft and please go through it. When it came back Canon said the AF/MF focus button was broken and replaced it. The focus still soft. So I rented a Sigma 24-105MM F4 DG OS HSM | A which was superior, bought it and sold the Canon.

I did the MFA before and after sending it to Canon.

Love your comment on location. I saw that you are from Lincoln so we share that same sentiment!

Just a quick question, there isn't a filter on the lens, correct?

Nope. I am going to get rid of it and buy a new white box lens more than likely.
