Hi-any idea how this camera compares to the r6mkii when it comes to eye detection and usage for sports photography? Trying to decide on these two. Thanks

Hi dmead516, I don't own an R6 so I have no comparison to offer. BUT, I will tell you the R5 Eye detection is pretty darn good, not so good, when the subjects are wearing tinted googles or face shields, this is to be expected.

Thanks for the response. Any experience with group sports? Soccer, football, etc. Mainly trying to decide and will need a camera that locks on to the main subject and stays, and doesnt stop when someone steps in front of them. The 1dx2 and 3 were really good at this.

I have an R6 and like the R5, if you set up your rear focus buttons properly with the correct settings, you can have exactly that. You put your starting point on the player to track, hold down that rear button while you recompose, and it will follow that player. I have shot two seasons of rugby and one of football, no real issues to speak of. My 5D4 is set up pretty similarly but obviously no eye tracking.

The AF cases are still there too and can be tweaked for how fast focus moves off a target, etc. just like the 5D4, 7D2 and 1D series.

Thank you-if you had to choose would you still go with the 5? Not sure what real improvements are being made in the 6-2 other than 24 mp.

I keep thinking about adding the R5 to the collection, I didn’t have the money at the time, but saw this thread and am thinking about it again. More resolution allows for more post processing options like cropping deeper or cleaning up noise. At this price, the R5 is the winner over the R6.

How much longer on the warranty?

note the warranty verbiage from Canon

"Canon U.S.A., Inc. and Canon Canada Inc. (collectively "Canon") ]warrant to the original end-user purchaser , when delivered in new condition in its original container, that the Product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase. "

So to make a warranty claim, you would need to have the original purchaser submit the camera to Canon USA...the purchase receipt would be needed as evidence of original purchase date, and that would be in his/her name, not yours.

That’s not true; we spoke with Canon, and CarePak can be transferred.
