note the warranty verbiage from Canon
"Canon U.S.A., Inc. and Canon Canada Inc. (collectively "Canon") ]warrant to the original end-user purchaser , when delivered in new condition in its original container, that the Product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase. "
So to make a warranty claim, you would need to have the original purchaser submit the camera to Canon USA...the purchase receipt would be needed as evidence of original purchase date, and that would be in his/her name, not yours.
Might want to do a bit more research... from the Canon site....
Transferable
CarePAK PLUS is transferable. Purchase a product as a gift for someone else or sell it during the covered period and transfer the benefits to someone else.
Not only this, if you keep your receipt and never register the gear, then sell the gear under the factory warranty, it is indeed transferable, because you pass the original receipt with the purchase to the new owner. This has worked many times in the past for just the factory warranty. The receipt DOES NOT have to be in your name either, that is a fallacy. I have been at both ends of this, with nary an issue with warranty work.
