I have some extra money after overpaying the IRS and was looking to upgrade from my RP.

I read on the Internet that the R8 has considerably improved facial recognition over the older R’s and the R6m2 is not a slouch either.

Is facial recognition performance for these cameras about similar, or is there a benefit to the R6m2?

I mostly shoot EF-L lenses.

I was in the same quandary a month and a half ago. I even pre-ordered the R8. Then I realized that it doesn't have IBIS but the R6MkII does. Since my main lens is the EF24-70 L v2 which has no IS, that was a deal breaker for me. I cancelled the order and got the R6MkII. The two card slots and the better battery (LP6 of which I have a bunch from my previous dSLRs) were nice bonuses also.

If these are of no concern to you, the two cameras share the same sensor and probably most of the software features.
