I am looking at getting a new camera, right now its up between the RP and the R10.

The R10 kind of scares me because it does not have a weather seal on it but looking back on all my cameras I have had before I am not sure if it matters or not.

What do you guys think?

Im mainly picking back up the camera to capture my newborn and maybe do a bit of portrait and landscape to pass the time as well.

It doesn't matter until it does. Keep in mind its not just protection against splashing/light rain, it's also effective against dust/dirt/sands/debris/etc. It's probably saved me a few times when I got caught in an unexpected rain storm and definitely some peace of mind when at the beach or out in the snow.

If you don't care to deliver images from some kind of event or whatever, then you can just stop shooting if the conditions are bad.
But if you visit an outdoor event and need pictures from it, no matter what, then you need a camera and other equipment that can handle the weather, even if it's not nice.

It's another thing that if you want to take photos only the better cameras can handle, then they are frequently also better sealed.

How many canon cameras are actually weather sealed? I have a hard time finding that information.

RP has design flow, which is prone to fail on/off switch. It has been changed in R8.
I recommend to look at R8 instead of RP and R10.
R10 is a cropper with very limited native lenses selection.
With FF, even with RF mount you'll have more choice and if you are on budget, old wide manual focus, aperture primes are good on it and so are old EF lenses.
With kids it is easier on the wide end.

I'm not aware of any weather sealing in RP, not sure if R8/10 are any better. Overall Canon's weather sealing of bodies and lenses is not something I trust.

I switched to Pentax for rain, snow. A just be comfortable on long hikes, overnight camping.

Darn right weather sealing matters. I use 1Dx bodies because of weather sealing capabilities. Water damage isnt covered for warranty concerns....I have seen it happen to people who dont use good quality cameras that have it....I dont even think twice with my 1Dx2 when it rains outside...camera can handle it

Can't answer for camera you are looking at but your question.
I bought Olympus for its weather sealing.
That was not for total guarantee rather peace of mind knowing I'd be in Hawaii with a camera that I didn't have to hide from showers etc.
In 12 years of use it's still going strong

So, for me the weather sealing, not the brand was what influenced my decision.

As MMp said, it doesn't matter until it does

The R series can use rf and ef/efs lenses, plenty of selections!

Weather sealing only matters if you think you are going to shoot in adverse conditions. If you have a bag, and put your gear away when it rains, you are fine. Lenses have to be sealed too, and that just adds more cost.

I have a kitchen garbage bag in my gear that I take just in case, and I then have a cover for my gear that fits in my pocket if it starts to rain.

One thing I have found helpful is that when putting a camera or lens into something that doesn't breathe, such as a trash bag or a big ziploc bag, I also put a paper towel or something made of cotton (like a glove or cut off pant leg or something) in with it, so that the paper towel or cotton thing can absorb moisture and keep moisture from condensing in the camera / lens or gathering and beading up on its surface.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Smart Idea Tom. I keep a wipe towel in my jacket pocket when im shooting wildlife for many reasons. Dirty hands and muddy hands is a big reason. When Im rafting and it starts to rain and mist im really glad I have the weather sealing of the 1D cameras. I have got them really wet when out in the elements and that cloth towel is invaluable

So is the R10 worth it even without the weather sealing??? To be honest it’s something I have never thought about and I have used a lot of cameras in snow weather without thinking.

I can buy new one today or buy a used RP.

The RP won’t be much better, I would just buy the one that provides most of the functions you need.
