I need a verbal mantra before pushing the shutter. Too many of my shots have camera shake. I need to breath out, brace and push more. Just saying, it effects all of us old guys that never break out the tripods.

Raise the ISO and therefore have a faster shutter, maybe? Or get a faster lens? Or a lens with IS?

There are some options I would think.

Yep, trigger control is essential in more than one hobby. :)

That could be Topaz's new ad slogan!

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

sexagenarian shake.

Is this a dance or a drink?

As an old guy from the days in which 400 ASA was too grainy for an 11x14 from 35mm, it took me a bit of effort to realize that today's ISOs are pretty darned good. 1600 ISO is today's 400 ASA.

Depends on the camera. The 5DIV ISO 51k with some noise processing is better I think.

Not only is today’s ISO performance quite good, there are a lot of very good noise reduction softwares out there too. DXO, Topaz, and Adobe’s AI noise reduction all do an incredible job at reducing noise and getting sharpness out of crazy high ISO values.

Not sure what this would map to in film speeds, but this is a pretty high ISO crop, then if I go higher and don't like the noise profile, I will go B&W. (ISO 16000 and 25600)

I've been scanning old negatives lately and just picked up a new negative scanner that does way better than my flatbed. What really surprised me is how messy negatives look when you really zoom in. Below is zoomed in 400% If this were a digital file, I would be freaking. :)

Nice shot but may want to check the lens correction and Key-stoning on your black and white conversion profile.
What ever it is it's made the kids glasses squarer and looks as if it aged her a bit.

I never use lens correction anything... 57mm on a FF though, so maybe some sort of pincushioning effect, but not one I am aware of on the 24-70L and certainly not in the middle of the frame.

EDIT: thanks for the pm clarification! That’s funny now that I see what you meant. One is my daughter, the other is my granddaughter, you decide which. Thus the similarities… :)

——-

Here is the 2009 7D at 12800, noisier than 400 film I am sure, definitely a noisy camera in the shadows.
