I was wondering if anyone would like to participate in a post where we share information on NWR in our states.

I live in Maryland and my favorite place in MD is Blackwater NWR in Cambridge.

I also travel to Delaware and Bombay Hook NWR. That is my current favorite as it is a large drivable loop where I can shoot from my car using my window beanbag.

When I travel to different states I am always looking for great places to go shoot local wildlife. Preferably from my vehicle as my gear is heavy and whenever I wander down trails I tend to come back with ticks.

Feel free to add to this and maybe it can become a good resource for traveling wildlife photogs!!

I dont think you should limit it to NWR, everyone has there favorite area's that are not necessarily NWR.

Case in point, Conowingo Dam Maryland, and I am sure many more.

Here are 8 NWR for Florida

Some that are not necessary NWR
Johanthan Dickerson State Park - Hobe Sound
Riverbend Park - Jupiter
Green Cay Nature Center & Wetlands - Boynton Beach
Wakodahatchee Wetlands - Delray
Lakeside Ranch Storm Water Treatment area - Okeechobee
Mayaka River State Park - Sarasota
Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive - Apopka
Circle B Bar Reserve - Lakeland
Orlando Wetlands - Christmas

I could keep on going, not to mention so many Florida Wildlife Management area's

In Washington state, my favorite is the Billy Frank, Jr. Nisqually NWR. It's at the north end of Olympia in the Nisqually river delta where it spills into the south end of Puget Sound. It's got a variety of habitats that support a variety of critters. The star of the place is the several-mile-long boardwalk over the tideflats. It's a completely different place when the tide is in than it is when the delta is empty. Both attract different critters at different times of the year.

There are also several NWRs in Skagit county, on the migration path of several species of birds, including a variety of geese and swan.

Washington also has a great system of state parks, from giant "bring the kids and the RV and the ski boat" type parks to a gravel road off the highway and 4 parking places in front of a trail or a view.

From Billy Frank, Jr.

No one? There has to be some shots in the bird and wildlife threads made in NWRs. I'd love to hear about your places.

Here's one from the Ridgefield NWR on the Washington side of the Columbia north of Portland. This was on a drive-loop section of the park. I knew it was there, but I got on it by accident, and I didn't like it at all. It was a one-way loop and I had to do the whole thing. There were no birds. Just me spending the afternoon driving slow.

I did see this guy in a pond. It was on a straight stretch so I could drive faster than he could swim. From behind, I thought it might be a snake. I still don't know what kind of critter it is. When I first shot it, I asked around here and elsewhere and never got a consensus.
