I have an opportunity to pick up a Canon R locally for a good price and very low shutter count and wondering if it’s worth doing so?

I thought about shelling out the money for an R8 but then this came up and now it’s got me thinking.

Really all I am looking to do is portraits and landscape and I’m not at all interested in APS-C cameras.

I bought my third EOS R body a few months ago. I'm 80% portrait, 10% candid/journalistic, and 10% stage production. The EOS R totally suits my purposes. I keep looking with a little lust at the R5, but the fact is that it wouldn't make my pictures look a bit better.

The only R5 feature I wish I had, having three bodies, is the ability to save the camera configuration to a card and transfer it from one camera to the other.

But my working concept is to have three identical bodies, and three R5 bodies wouldn't make sense with my cash flow.

The R is still a very capable camera. Image quality is outstanding. I am still using mine, although I am planning on upgrading to the R6 M2 for its advanced auto focus system and ergonomics. I recently picked up a R10, and the AF system really is a major improvement over the R. If you are doing mostly portraits and landscapes, though, the R should work great.

I’m super set on Mirrorless and I may be hanging on to wanting latest tech. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy that R. Build up my RF a lenses and then look at buying new down the road.

I’m a huge fan of prime lenses and it seems like the RF lenses are pretty sharp.
